Want to catch Pikachu and evolve it into Raichu in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen? Here’s a guide on how to do it.
Pokémon games let players journey through expansive worlds teeming with fascinating creatures. Pikachu quickly became a fan favorite when the series began. Now that FireRed and LeafGreen are available on Nintendo Switch, many players are wondering how to catch Pikachu and evolve it into Raichu.
How to catch Pikachu in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen
While Pikachu is easy to catch when you find it – a basic Poké Ball or Great Ball usually does the trick – actually finding Pikachu is the real challenge for most players.
Looking for Pikachu in FireRed and LeafGreen? You can find him in two different spots. I recommend catching him in the first location, especially if you want to add him to your team early in the game.
As a trainer exploring Viridian Forest, I’ve learned you can find Pikachu there! They’re usually between levels 3 and 5, so they shouldn’t be too hard to battle and catch. The tricky part is, they’re pretty rare – only about 5% of the Pokémon you encounter will be a Pikachu. You’ll need some patience, but it’s totally worth it to add one to your team!
Okay, so if you’re trying to find some tougher Pokémon later in the game, the Power Plant is the place to go – that’s where Zapdos is hanging out! And get this – Pikachu actually shows up a lot there, like 25% chance! Just be warned, the Pikachu you find in the Power Plant are usually between level 22 and 26, so they’ll be a bit harder to catch. But don’t worry, a Great Ball should do the trick, or if you’re feeling extra prepared, an Ultra Ball will definitely snag him!
So, now you have Pikachu, but how do you evolve the Pokémon into a Raichu?
How to evolve Pikachu
In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, you need a Thunder Stone to evolve Pikachu into Raichu. Raichu is a fast and strong Pokémon that makes a great addition to your team. You can use the Thunder Stone on Pikachu at any level, even right away, to trigger the evolution.
Looking for a Thunder Stone in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen? It’s easy! Just go to the fourth floor of the Celadon Department Store in Celadon City, and you can buy one for $2,100 PokéDollars.
Accidentally used your Thunder Stone on Eevee? Don’t worry! You can find two more at the Power Plant, giving you a total of three Thunder Stones in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen.
