How TIME and Statista Determined the World’s Top EdTech Companies of 2026

TIME magazine has released its third annual list of the best EdTech (educational technology) companies for 2026, created with data from Statista, a respected research firm. The ranking is based on a study of 500 companies that create and offer educational products and services. Here’s how the top companies were chosen.

Methodology

Main list

The “World’s Top EdTech Companies 2026” project is a thorough study to find the leading education technology companies globally. To be considered, companies needed to mainly create and offer educational technologies, products, or services. The top 500 companies, based on their scores, were recognized as the “World’s Top EdTech Companies 2026.”

This ranking is based on a company’s financial health and its influence within its industry. Statista collected information from approximately 6,500 businesses using research, online forms, and partnerships with other data providers. Each company received scores for both factors, which were then added together to create a final score.

To assess financial strength, Statista examined revenue, funding, and market capitalization. They gathered this data from public sources like annual reports, company websites, news coverage, and various databases. Information companies directly provided through an online form on the TIME website was also taken into account.

To understand how different industries are making an impact, Statista teamed up with The Upright Project and LexisNexis® Intellectual Property Solutions. Together, they evaluated companies based on a variety of factors, including things like:

  • holistic impact of a company’s product and service portfolio, including its alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and
  • quantity and value of a company’s IP (intellectual property) portfolio.

Statista also analyzed website traffic data to understand how well our products and services resonated with their intended audiences.

To create our ranking of the World’s Top EdTech Companies 2026, we first identified successful companies in the global EdTech industry based on their financial performance within their regions. We then focused on companies that were not only financially strong but also leaders in their specific areas of the EdTech market. We combined financial data with a measure of industry impact into a scoring model, weighting financial strength at 70% and impact at 30%. TIME and Statista jointly awarded the highest-scoring companies the title of “World’s Top EdTech Companies 2026.”

Rising Stars

In addition to their list of top 500 EdTech companies, Statista and TIME are also releasing a “Rising Stars” ranking. This new ranking identifies the companies with the fastest revenue growth over the last three years, based on data submitted through an online application.

Applied criteria:

  • company age 10 years and younger
  • minimum revenue of 1 million US Dollars in 2024
  • revenue growth rate of more than 20 % over the last three years
