How The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon secured "complicated” filming at the Louvre

As a die-hard fan of The Walking Dead, I must say that season 2 of Daryl Dixon has truly outdone itself! The team’s determination to film at the Louvre, one of France’s most iconic landmarks, adds an unprecedented level of grandeur and intrigue to the series.

In the second season of The Walking Dead, focusing on Daryl Dixon, the crew successfully filmed in one of France’s most recognized landmarks, the Louvre. Obtaining permission for this location was as complex as you might expect, but the team persevered and eventually secured approval to shoot scenes at the renowned museum worldwide.

In season 1 of “The Walking Dead,” featuring Daryl Dixon, filming took place at various famous sites across France. Scenes such as a battle occurring beneath the Eiffel Tower and Daryl’s group residing in Mont Saint-Michel were captured here. Moving on to season 2, titled “The Book of Carol,” the production team successfully obtained permission to film inside the Louvre, where the Mona Lisa is housed. The trailer offers a sneak peek into the dilapidated, post-apocalyptic Louvre. Take a look:

Filming at such a highly secure location proved quite challenging, as David Zobel explained to Entertainment Weekly. He noted, “It was really tough and complex to arrange,” and further mentioned, “The Louvre was a site we’ve longed to capture on screen.

In the footage Daryl Dixon captures at the Louvre, we see a flashback for Marion Genet, the head of the Living movement’s Power faction. This scene shares similarities with Isabelle’s (portrayed by Clémence Poésy) backstory from season 1, as it is set on the day of the outbreak in Paris.

Zobel elaborated on how the French backdrop adds depth to the series, and how the post-zombie apocalypse offers a fresh perspective on refined culture.

When Norman and I first talked about the show, we loved the juxtaposition of being in a place like France, which is all about high culture and beautiful architecture and high fashion, and juxtaposing that against the apocalypse, which is everything falling apart and everything’s sh–ty.

Daryl Dixon’s Season 2 – Carol’s Tale” debuts on AMC on September 29th. This season is undeniably one of the best that the Walking Dead Universe has delivered in quite some time. Don’t miss our glowing review, available now: [Link to Review]
