How the Sex and the City stars are erasing Kim Cattrall’s character from the show as the behind the scenes ‘mean girls’ feud rages on

Behind the cameras, this beloved TV girl gang had been embroiled in a long-standing, acrimonious dispute for over two and a half decades.

Currently, the main actors from the Sex and City reboot titled And Just Like That are still criticizing their ex-colleague, Kim Cattrall, in recent interviews by downplaying the significance of her character, Samantha, as a key figure within the friend group.

This week, Kirsten Davies, age 60 and portraying the character of Charlotte, shared that at times, particularly in the early stages, she experiences peculiar moments where it seems as if she’s caring for Samantha.

What intrigues me is that, given my understanding, Charlotte didn’t lean heavily on Samantha. So, it seems unlikely that she would contact her at this point.

Perhaps she would be amicable towards her now, it doesn’t seem like there are any specific issues between them.

In contrast to the spin-off series, Kim, who is 68 years old, did not make an appearance, yet in the newest season, season three that premiered on Friday, Samantha communicates with Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie, through text messages in multiple scenes instead.

‘I don’t anticipate that Miranda and Samantha are exchanging messages this season, and I believe she isn’t seeking Samantha for support regarding her sexuality.’

Sarah Jessica Parker, at 60 years old, has denied any plans for a comeback as Samantha in the show, and also stated that she and co-producer Michael Patrick King haven’t discussed this possibility. She shared this during an interview with Elle magazine.

2008 saw the publication of a tell-all memoir by Clifford Streit, previously in charge of Candace Bushnell, the original character Carrie Bradshaw from Sex and the City. This book detailed the backstage drama that unfolded during the transformation of Bushnell’s Sex and the City columns into the popular television series.

The book was never published but leaked details about the feud between Sarah Jessica and Kim.

According to Clifford, Kim’s innate ability to command attention on set often led to friction with Sarah. This tension resulted in Cynthia and Kristen growing particularly close to the main actress and distancing themselves from Kim.

In 2002, while I was shooting in the vibrant city of Atlantic City, an unusual situation unfolded among my female crew members. To ensure some personal space for one individual, we deliberately chose a spacious house as our temporary residence, unintentionally creating a sense of exclusion for another team member, Kim.

Simultaneously, according to The New York Post, Kim was found to be ostracized by the other female cast members, even in common areas like the makeup room and dining hall. They refrained from sitting with her.

There was a huge pay disparity among the women.

Kim voiced her unhappiness over her salary, particularly after Sarah Jessica took on the role of executive producer during season two, as she believed her compensation didn’t reflect the value of her work on the program.

At the 2004 Emmy Awards ceremony, a photograph was taken showing three women seated together, with Kim positioned solo elsewhere.

There were claims that the production of the first Sex and the City movie was challenging due to the tension among the women, particularly regarding disagreements about fashion choices between Kim and Sarah.

In the 2010 sequel, they rarely interacted off-screen unless it was necessary for their shared scenes.

Plans for a third movie were shelved and Kim was blamed for asking for higher pay.

In a 2017 conversation with Piers Morgan, Kim referred to her bond with Sarah as ‘harmful’ and expressed regret that her fellow cast members hadn’t shown her more kindness in the past.

In a 2018 interview, Sarah stated that the third movie was scrapped due to her conflict with Kim, and added that the momentum of the #MeToo movement emboldened her to share her on-set experiences publicly.

In that very same year, Kim’s brother sadly passed away. Later on, she claimed that Sarah was taking advantage of their misfortune to reestablish her ‘sympathetic image’ by expressing sympathy towards the tragedy.

On Instagram, Kim posted: “At this difficult moment, I don’t require your affection or backing from Sarah Jessica Parker. Your frequent contact serves as a painful echo of the unkindness you displayed earlier and persist in exhibiting now.

I want to be absolutely straightforward with you. You are neither a part of my family nor a friend. Therefore, I’m making it clear for the final time that you should cease taking advantage of our misfortune.

She additionally provided a reference to the scandalous New Yorker piece on their conflict and the ‘harmful clique mentality that dismantled Sex and the City’.
