How The Legend of Vox Machina will honor the late Lance Reddick in season 3

As a long-time fan of Lance Reddick and his captivating performances, especially his role as Thordak in The Legend of Vox Machina, I can’t help but feel a bittersweet excitement about the upcoming third season. The news of his sudden passing last year left an enormous void in the world of entertainment, and I was heartbroken to learn that one of my favorite actors would no longer grace our screens with his talent.

In the previous year, Lance Reddick, who was widely recognized for his roles in films like “John Wick,” television series such as “The Wire,” and numerous other projects, tragically passed away due to heart disease. This untimely demise brought an abrupt end to a thriving career. One of his final performances will be lending his voice to the malevolent dragon Thordak in the impending third season of “The Legend of Vox Machina,” which is inspired by the Dungeons & Dragons escapades from Critical Role, and the show has intentions to pay tribute to him.

According to actor Sam Riegel (Scanlan), there was a tribute card for him following the initial episode of the season, as shared with Radio Times. However, due to his unexpected passing, we didn’t have the opportunity to properly bid farewell. We’ve maintained contact with his family, and his wife was understanding, wishing for his voice to remain in the series. We were grateful that this was possible, and it happened. It was a privilege to work alongside him, and I’m thankful that this was one of his final projects.

In the series known as Vox Machina, Thordak is among the dragons forming the Chroma Conclave, a ruthless band of fire-breathing beasts that the heroic group, affectionately called Vox Machina, aim to defeat. Reddick is renowned for portraying commanding characters such as Thordak. He also lends his voice to the infamous villain Lex Luthor in Kite Man: Hell Yeah! and even played the Greek deity of thunder, Zeus, in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Whenever you hear that voice, it seems like it belongs to someone who wields immense power.

Grief is “a theme” in The Legend of Vox Machina season 3

Matthew Mercer, another member of the Vox Machina cast and producer, expressed his feelings about Reddick’s passing. “For such a long time, we were fans of his, and having him join our series was incredibly meaningful,” Mercer shared. “Unfortunately, I only got to meet him in person just before he passed, and it affected us all deeply.

He brought such a delicious subtlety to it at times, as well as power and terrifying strength. He really elevated Thordak to a level I couldn’t expect, and I’m just so grateful that we had the opportunity to do that together.

The third season of “The Legend of Vox Machina” debuts on Amazon Prime Video this Thursday, October 3. Although this is one of Reddick’s last roles, there are still other projects in the pipeline; for example, he will be featured in the upcoming “John Wick” spinoff film titled “Ballerina,” set to release next year.
