Diane Keaton has been linked to many famous men, including Woody Allen and Warren Beatty, but she has said that Al Pacino was the one she truly loved during their passionate relationship that lasted for many years.

The actress, who died on Saturday at age 79, had an on-again, off-again relationship with Al Pacino after they starred together as husband and wife in the hit 1972 film, The Godfather.

Their relationship continued even after the 1990 release of Coppola’s negatively received film, *The Godfather Part III*. Diane Keaton would later say she always considered him the one who got away.

She told The Times in 2017 that she wasn’t hoping for a proposal. She simply assumed they would get married someday and wished he’d skip the proposal and just go ahead with it.

Thankfully, that situation never came to pass, and it’s probably for the best for both of us. It would have been a terrible experience for him.

According to a friend, Al now realizes his true love was Diane, whom he’s always considered an incredible person, as reported by the Daily Mail.

He’ll always wonder what if he’d acted when he had the opportunity. After his breakup with Diane, Al often said it was never too late to try again if a relationship was meant to be. Unfortunately, that time has now passed.

Despite having several relationships, Al Pacino has always prioritized his four children above all else.

According to a source, Al loves all of his children very much. Even though he preferred living in New York, he bought a house in Los Angeles so he could see his West Coast children more often.

The late actress also used to say marriage was never something high on her bucket list.

He was practically invisible to her. She deeply loved and admired her mother, who single-handedly ran the household and raised their four children with incredible strength and independence.

She had a twenty-year connection with Woody Allen, but it differed from her bond with Al Pacino.

According to a source, Al evoked a sense of vulnerability, reminding her of a lonely child longing for affection. She believed he wouldn’t attempt to control her, as he seemed to rely on her strength and independence.

Diane once imagined a future with Al, including marriage and a family. However, after a long, unsteady relationship, she started to feel like they either needed to commit soon or move on.

To her astonishment, he simply walked away, firmly stating that no one, especially not a woman, would pressure him into acting before he was ready. He kept his word and continued on with his life.
