The new Superman movie, directed by James Gunn, is already a major success in 2025, and it’s easy to see why. Many believe it’s the best Superman film in almost 50 years, standing alongside the beloved 1978 movie with Christopher Reeve. Like the original, it’s a fantastic action movie that families and kids can enjoy.
According to expert Jonathan Decker, David Corenswet’s Superman offers a positive male role model for today’s audiences, similar to Christopher Reeve’s portrayal. The movie is inspiring and filled with hope, leaving viewers feeling uplifted and happy even after it ends.
David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman will likely resonate with audiences as he struggles with doubt and ultimately finds his purpose and self-belief throughout the film. Superman (2025) successfully returns to the core of what makes the character special, moving away from the darker versions we’ve seen lately, and proves that movies can still be uplifting.
Superman 2025 Is A Classic Good Vs. Bad Story

One of the most striking things about Superman is that the main character embodies pure goodness and serves as a genuine role model, encouraging viewers to strive for better. This positive influence extends to the other characters as well, motivating them to make tough choices and ultimately fight for what’s right.
This version of Lex Luthor, brilliantly portrayed by Nicholas Hoult in what is arguably his best role yet, is completely devoid of any positive traits. His conflict with Superman stems purely from spite, pride, and deep-seated insecurity – something he openly admits in a surprisingly self-aware speech. The film makes it clear that his actions are never, even for a moment, understandable or excusable.
While Superman isn’t perfect and sometimes questions himself – leading to a touching conversation with his dad – he consistently puts others first and does what’s right. This makes the movie a refreshing story of clear-cut good versus evil, something you don’t often see in modern films that tend to explore more complex and ambiguous moral areas.
Malik Ali’s Death Is A Pivotal Point In Superman

Something I always appreciate about the movie Superman is that only one genuinely good person dies, and the film gives him a respectful send-off with an obituary written by Clark Kent. Malik Ali, who runs a falafel stand, is inspired by Superman’s heroism and tries to help him, but unfortunately becomes a target for Lex Luthor.
Things start to fall apart for the heroes when Lex Luthor murders Malik Ali. Luthor manipulates the public into believing Superman has sinister intentions – specifically, that he’s building a collection of romantic partners – and he also kidnaps Krypto, Superman’s dog, who looks a lot like director James Gunn’s pet, Ozu. Ultimately, Luthor convinces the government to hand Superman over to his control after Superman voluntarily surrenders.
After Lex forced Metamorpho to poison Superman with Kryptonite, Metamorpho changes his mind and rebels when he witnesses Lex kill Malik. At the same time, Lois Lane persuades Mr. Terrific to assist her in locating Superman. The two of them, along with Krypto, set off to find him. Elsewhere, Eve Tessmacher reveals evidence that could bring Lex down. Even Guy Gardner joins the effort to help the citizens of Jahranpur.
Superman Rewards Bravery, Teamwork, and Optimism

As a huge fan, I was really struck by how Gunn handled the story. He brilliantly showed us both the good and bad paths our heroes could take. Even when Lex Luthor seemed to be winning – succeeding with all his plans and even hurting people I cared about – Gunn didn’t let the story become totally bleak. It was so satisfying to see the heroes ultimately triumph, proving that even in the darkest times, hope can prevail!
James Gunn’s Superman movie beautifully shows how believing in the good in others and never giving up, even when things are tough, can be incredibly powerful. While many films these days seem to favor sad or bleak endings, claiming they’re more ‘realistic,’ this trend often feeds off of and reinforces the negativity we see in the world.
Ultimately, teamwork and understanding each other are what allow our heroes to succeed. Even though characters like Eve Tessmacher, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen don’t have superpowers, they’re essential in stopping Lex Luthor. Through their actions, Superman shows us that it’s important to always try your best, even when things look impossible.
Superman’s Happy Ending Feels Deserved

It’s not unrealistic to have a happy ending, and the movie Superman demonstrates this through the journeys of its characters. While everyone experiences hardship, they choose hope over negativity and are ultimately rewarded when Lex Luthor is defeated. This victory isn’t easy; it’s truly earned. Even Superman, with all his power, needs help from his team to defeat Ultraman and save the people of Jahranpur.
The hopeful feeling at the end of Superman comes from showing us that while life isn’t always easy, our efforts still matter. The movie highlights that even small victories – like Jimmy Olsen gaining his editor’s respect – are significant and come from choosing optimism over negativity.
