Before Brooklyn Beckham publicly stated he’d been targeted by online attacks, his brothers, Romeo and Cruz, were criticized for seemingly making fun of him on social media.
The chef, 26, released a six-page statement on Monday explaining he doesn’t want to make amends with his family. He said he’s finally asserting himself and believes his parents have long dictated the story of their family.
Before Brooklyn publicly spoke out, his brothers, Romeo, 23, and Cruz, 20, had hinted at a disagreement with a series of subtle, pointed comments.
Some sources said these critical comments led to neither brother being invited to Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz’s vow renewal ceremony in August, and that no other Beckhams attended either.
Brooklyn explained in a detailed statement that Romeo and Cruz were deliberately provoked to confront him, which led to him blocking them on social media over the summer.
Cruz initially seemed to make fun of Brooklyn Beckham’s wife, Nicola, after she left a very enthusiastic comment on a post by Romeo’s former girlfriend, Mia Regan. The post highlighted Mia’s cover shoot for Pop magazine back in April.
Nicola wrote: ‘so beautiful mia.’
Two days later, Cruz poked fun at the remark after Romeo shared a gallery of snaps on Instagram.
He wrote ‘So beautiful Romeo’ underneath the post, and his brother replied with a series of laughing-crying emojis. His comment has since been removed.
In May, Cruz seemed to repeat a gesture from Brooklyn by sharing a heartfelt message. He posted a video of them riding a motorbike with a caption declaring he would ‘always choose’ Nicola.
He expressed his deep and lasting love, saying he would choose his partner always and that they were the most amazing person he knew. He vowed their love would last forever.
Cruz appeared upset by the post, quickly sharing a family photo from his mother Victoria’s Paris Fashion Week show.
He expressed his deep love for his family, saying they mean more to him than anything else. He thanked his parents for giving them life and for their unwavering care, and shared how grateful they all are to have them.
He wrote: ‘It takes 43 muscles in your face to frown, and 17 to smile. Be kind and tell the truth.’
Only a few weeks earlier, Romeo had posted a screenshot of what he was listening to on Spotify – Justin Bieber’s song “Walking Away” – and simply captioned it with a single word: “Yup.”
Following weeks of rumors about a rift between Brooklyn and his family, Cruz publicly criticized his brother’s many different business projects.
Brooklyn has showcased his cooking talents online, but he’s also passionate about sports, photography, and fashion styling.
In June, Cruz shared a video of himself playing guitar onstage. Someone commented, jokingly asking if he’d continue with music or pursue a different career, like race car driving.
He then curtly replied: ‘Wrong brother mate.’
As a longtime follower, it was really disheartening to hear that the issues between the Beckhams were still going on, and that none of Brooklyn’s family could make it to his second wedding ceremony back in September. It just seemed like a really sad sign of how strained things are.
Following the ceremony at Nicola Peltz’s family’s large Palm Beach home, insiders revealed that Romeo and Cruz weren’t invited because they had previously made digs at Brooklyn and blocked him online. This led to them being excluded from the event.
According to a source, Romeo and Cruz have been openly expressing their feelings towards their father on social media, and their behavior suggests they don’t expect to be invited to events. It’s unclear why they would think they’d receive an invitation given how they’ve been acting.
This week, I was really struck by Brooklyn’s very honest words about his family. He shared that it was incredibly painful when even his own brothers seemed to turn against him, first publicly on social media, and then by completely cutting off contact last summer. It’s a tough situation, and it really highlights how deeply personal family conflicts can be.
Brooklyn announced on Monday that he has completely severed ties with his parents and doesn’t want to repair their relationship. He explained that he’s asserting his independence and taking control of his life for the first time.
Brooklyn and Nicola have been central to a growing family rift, causing them to miss important events like his father Sir David’s 50th birthday and the celebration of his knighthood. This has led to tension and distance within the family in recent months.
Brooklyn Beckham stated that he felt controlled by his family, who he believes prioritize publicity over everything else. He also shared that being with his wife, Nicola, has brought him much-needed peace and helped him overcome severe anxiety.
Brooklyn explained that his family prioritizes public image and sponsorships above everything else, putting the ‘Beckham brand’ first.
Let’s be real, sometimes ‘family’ feels less about genuine connection and more about performing for the ‘gram, or rearranging your entire life for that perfect picture. It’s like love is measured by how much you show you love them, even if it means sacrificing your own commitments. As someone who looks at modern life a lot, I’ve noticed this pressure to appear like the perfect family can actually get in the way of what really matters: actually being a family.
It’s a misunderstanding to say my wife controls me. Actually, I’ve been the one controlled for most of my life – by my parents.
I used to struggle with intense anxiety, but surprisingly, it’s gone away now that I’ve moved away from my family. I wake up each day feeling thankful for the life I’ve built and finally experiencing peace and calm.
My wife and I simply want a peaceful, private life, and happiness for our family – we don’t want to be influenced by public perception or media attention.
The Daily Mail has contacted the Beckhams for comment.
Victoria is deeply upset after being caught in the middle of a bitter family dispute. The conflict began with a legal battle over the rights to their family name.
Although Brooklyn playfully admitted he used to be very close to his mother, his recent statement focused primarily on his wife, Victoria Beckham, and his harsh words deeply upset her, leaving her devastated.
