How Rio Ferdinand and wife Kate ‘arrived two hours late’ to support footballer’s brother Anton on Dancing On Ice in order to ‘avoid run in with TOWIE star’s ex Dan Edgar’

According to reports, Rio Ferdinand and his wife Kate were said to have arrived at Dancing On Ice two hours later than expected on Sunday, in order to cheer on Rio’s brother Anton during the show.

It’s rumored that the couple arrived late among friends and relatives deliberately to avoid an uncomfortable encounter with Kate’s former partner, Dan Edgar, who happens to be a contestant on the show.

Kate from TOWIE had been in a relationship with Dan for six years, starting in 2015 where she first appeared on the show as his off-and-on girlfriend. However, in the following year, Dan faced accusations of infidelity, leading to their definitive breakup in 2017.

In the year 2019, Kate tied the knot with ex-England soccer player Rio, who was then 46 years old. As a result, she became a stepmother to his trio of children. Subsequently, they had two children together.

Besides arriving late to the filming for Dancing on Ice this past weekend, it’s reported that Kate and Rio were absent during the post-event social gathering as well.

According to a source who attended Dancing On Ice, Kate and Rio arrived two hours after the other guests, which suggests they deliberately came in late to steer clear of any confrontations with Dan.

‘They were supposed to be there between 2:50pm and 3:30pm but slinked in at 5:50pm.

After the program concluded, neither Kate nor Rio chose to linger for a post-show beverage with Anton. Instead, we swiftly made our departure from the VIP area, where Dan was still holding court.

According to the report, the source stated that the couple applauded for every other pair on the ice, excluding Dan. However, Dan is set to give a stellar performance for the first time next week.

TopMob has approached representatives for Kate and Rio for comment.

In the audience during Anton’s first performance on Dancing On Ice, Rio and Kate enthusiastically encouraged him, making it clear that they were his dedicated supporters.

39-year-old ex-West Ham United player made his debut skating performance with partner Annette Dytrt to Maneskin’s rendition of Beggin’, receiving a respectable total of 26 points from the judges.

Rio and Kate were spotted observing Anton’s skating performance from the spectator section, and afterwards expressed immense pride for him when speaking with Stephen Mulhern and Holly Willoughby.

Apart from their admission, it was clear that they were quite anxious about watching Anton’s initial skating routine. This is because they had glimpses of his practice sessions where he was mastering the performance.

Rio said: ‘I’m absolutely buzzing, because he sent us a few videos and he was horrific.’

After learning from the judges that Anton might be a promising contender in the competition, Rio commented: ‘Let’s hope we can return!’

In 2019, Kate and Rio got married, and their first child, Cree, was born in December 2020. Their second child, Shae, came into the world last year through a cesarean section.

Apart from being his wife, she’s also the guardian of Lorenz (age 18), Tate (age 15), and Tia (age 13) – children from a previous marriage he had with Rebecca Ellison, who sadly passed away in 2015.

In the sun-kissed cityscape of Dubai during my 2016 vacation, I crossed paths with a charming duo who would later become my dearest friends and partners in life – we had been introduced by our mutual confidants.

To celebrate their eighth anniversary, Kate and Rio returned to the UAE to welcome 2025. Kate posted a warm picture of them both having a wonderful evening out.

Alongside the post, she wrote: ‘Rio & I met 8 years ago yesterday.

It’s surprising how we find ourselves back at the same spot where we first met, now married and parents to two more lovely kids, making a family of five altogether.

It’s astonishing to consider that a casual encounter and numerous obstacles have led us to the point where we can welcome the New Year as a family of seven (with Lorenz not quite making it).

‘Going in to 2025 feeling very grateful and excited for what’s to come ✨.’
