Everyone experiences heartbreak uniquely. Last Thursday, Nicole Kidman attended a beauty event in New York. As a highly compensated ambassador for the skincare and makeup brand Cle de Peau, she looked every bit the A-list actress, wearing a black Vivienne Westwood gown and £35,000 of diamond jewelry. It’s a testament to her professionalism, appearing poised despite personal difficulties.
Looking calm and composed, she discussed her courage and ability to bounce back as she got older – explaining that, at 58, she refused to allow negative opinions to control her life.
Compare that refined, guarded persona with her very candid husband, musician and songwriter Keith Urban, who, during the same week, shared the stage with up-and-coming guitarist and singer Maggie Baugh, age 25.
Energetic Maggie, known for her signature hot pants during performances, has been performing duets with him intermittently since January of this year.
She was clearly thrilled when he playfully – and maybe with a hint of flirting – sang: ‘Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player.‘
They both shared a broad smile and burst out laughing. Afterwards, she shared the conversation on Instagram, captioning it: ‘Did he just say that?‘
Maybe Maggie’s cheerful personality was exactly what Urban needed, considering his marriage to Kidman seems to be ending. It suddenly fell apart in late June of this year – news that TMZ confirmed on Monday evening. In fact, it came out last night that Kidman filed for divorce just yesterday.
A source in Nashville, visibly upset about the end of the couple’s 19-year marriage, revealed yesterday that Nicole Kidman seemed to be going through a phase similar to adolescence – a ‘second teenagerhood’ – and also has a strong desire for intimacy, which may have contributed to the separation.
People close to Nicole Kidman are saying she didn’t want the divorce and tried to save the marriage. They indicate she actively worked to resolve their issues.
They also mentioned that her sister, Antonia, is supporting her. Antonia was very visible when her marriage to Tom Cruise ended in 2001.
A source shared with People that Nicole’s sister has been a huge support, and the Kidman family is united in helping each other through this. The source also said, ‘She didn’t want this. She has been fighting to save the marriage.’
It’s fair to say everyone in Nashville is buzzing with excitement. She and her husband, Keith Urban, 57, – along with their daughters, Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14 – were deeply involved in life in Tennessee.
The family was well-liked by people in the town, and I’ve heard that they often ate dinner together, just like everyone else.
According to a source yesterday, Nicole was often seen shopping with a bodyguard, but she remained actively involved in the local community. They regularly supported local sports teams, frequented local restaurants, and generally participated in everyday activities.
About a year ago, a friend of ours was at a brunch where Urban and Kidman made an appearance. Someone remarked that they ‘seemed really happy,’ arriving after church for the meal. The person who told us said Kidman was very affectionate with Urban, playfully nuzzling his neck – ‘just like what you see on the red carpet.’ Everyone at the brunch felt confident they had a very strong, ‘rock solid’ marriage.
I truly believe strong relationships don’t just *happen* – they take real work. Nicole Kidman really hit the nail on the head back in 2018 when she explained it. She said, ‘I think it’s knowing that you have to keep contributing to what we call the ‘us’. You go, “Does this work for us?”,’ It’s all about constantly evaluating things *together*. She continued, ‘When you make an us, it’s yours together – that’s what you create. Nobody else has that. It’s just between the two of you.’ It’s a beautiful way to look at it, isn’t it? That shared space, built with effort, is something uniquely yours.

Late last year, Urban traveled to Las Vegas for a ten-show musical residency and brought his entire family along with him.
I heard they rented a house in Las Vegas to spend time together. However, after a hectic spring for both Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman, their marriage ended.
Both individuals are from Australia and first connected at a ‘G’Day LA’ gathering for Australians working in Hollywood back in 2005. They swapped contact details, but it took him four months to find the confidence to actually call her.
The couple tied the knot in 2006. Musician Keith Urban expressed he was captivated by his wife, calling her his ‘real-life princess’. Nicole Kidman shared that they were both feeling isolated and needed the courage to connect with one another.
Very quickly after getting married, a difficult situation arose: Urban needed to enter a rehabilitation program to address his struggles with cocaine and alcohol. As he shared last year: ‘Just four months into our marriage, I went to rehab for three months. Nic supported me through everyone’s doubts-even her own, I’m sure-and she chose to stand by our love. And now, 18 years later, we’re still together.’
Oh my gosh, I was so worried when I heard it was his third time in rehab – for alcohol and cocaine, can you believe it? But he’s been saying he’s been sober ever since, and honestly, that’s all I care about! I just want him to be okay. It’s such a relief to hear he’s doing better. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it lasts this time!
Soon after leaving rehab, another problem surfaced: Model Amanda Wyatt claimed he had been repeatedly unfaithful to Kidman, having an affair with her leading up to their wedding, and also alleged they had used drugs together.
Wyatt relayed that Keith had confided in him: “People assume I’m living the dream, but I’m actually deeply unhappy. There’s this emptiness inside me that I can’t seem to resolve.” Wyatt expressed sympathy for Keith, but believed Keith had turned to drugs to cope with his feelings.

Urban’s publicist denounced the account as ‘false’.
Regardless of what really happened, the marriage appeared to be successful. In a recent conversation, Urban shared that his wife was incredibly attracted to him – so much so that she would even wake him up in the middle of the night wanting to be intimate, as she needed him right away.
Their marriage felt like a fresh start for both of them. Urban had been based in Nashville since 1999, and Kidman relocated from Hollywood to be with him. He’s a well-known country music artist, and although they own properties in Los Angeles and Portugal, Nashville is where they consider home.
However, it’s Nicole Kidman who has been staying at this estate – a large seven-bedroom home surrounded by woods – for the last three weeks. This was immediately after finishing three months of shooting Practical Magic 2 in London. She was also seen locally supporting the Nashville Film Festival last weekend.
Before then, she had spent some of the early summer in Australia with her sister and family.
Reports indicate that Urban has relocated to his own apartment in Nashville. He and his spouse were last spotted together on June 20th while attending a Club World Cup soccer game in the city.
Five days after that, she celebrated their anniversary on Instagram. She shared an older, black and white photo of the two of them, captioning it: ‘Happy Anniversary Baby’. He simply replied with a heart emoji – he didn’t write anything else, and didn’t post anything himself.
After that, they stopped communicating completely. He didn’t even react to an Instagram video of her and their daughter, Sunday Rose (who is interested in becoming a model), doing a photoshoot for Cle de Peau.

What’s going on? Rumors about the marriage have circulated for a while, especially recently as Nicole Kidman seems to be working on a lot of different projects. Some of these projects haven’t been critically acclaimed – for example, two seasons of Nine Perfect Strangers and the Netflix movie A Family Affair.
However, Babygirl-the movie where she portrayed a successful businesswoman involved in a sexually charged relationship with a younger, assertive intern-was truly startling. It featured Kidman crawling naked and lapping milk from a dish. In interviews, Kidman mentioned she grew weary of filming so many intimate scenes and participated in the film’s social media buzz by drinking a glass of milk on stage at a film festival in January.
She received the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her performance, and she was optimistic about a possible Oscar nomination, though ultimately she wasn’t nominated.
She actively campaigned for recognition after receiving a Golden Globe nomination, even hosting voters at her Los Angeles home for a screening and to win them over with her personality. While this effort wasn’t successful, it’s clear she’s been highly motivated to regain prominence in her career by championing and promoting “kink” cinema.
Some think that it won’t have done her marriage any good.
‘Was she considering how her teenage children or husband would react?’ a source in Nashville wondered. ‘Or was her only concern whether she’d receive an award?’
The source also stated: ‘People say she’s very open about her sexuality, and that’s well-known. She’s never been afraid to show that in her films.’
‘People are speculating that there has been a betrayal on one side or another.
I understand the explanation is that the relationship had naturally ended, but ending a 19-year marriage isn’t something you do simply because someone has been busy with work. There must be a significant issue that someone is unable to move beyond.

Some people are questioning if the news of Hugh Jackman’s divorce has caused them to consider ending their own relationships.
Nic and Keith had a truly close relationship with Hugh and Deborra, his former wife. Seeing one couple find happiness outside of a long-term marriage can sometimes inspire others to consider the same.
(Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness, who attended the wedding of Urban and Kidman, separated in 2023. Jackman is currently dating actress Sutton Foster.)
Certainly, by July, Urban was not comfortable when asked about his wife and her sex scenes.
A radio show host asked, ‘What goes through Keith Urban’s mind when he watches his wife, Nicole Kidman, share romantic scenes with younger actors like Zac Efron on television and hears about them on the radio?’ Rather than respond, Urban ended the phone call immediately.
So, later that month, we discovered there was a bit of a snag with his paperwork. It turned out he hadn’t submitted the necessary information to the Portuguese authorities for his residency permit in Cascais, Portugal. However, I’m happy to say I had already taken care of everything on my end – I’d submitted all the required information for my permit. It was a relief to get that sorted, and a bit frustrating for him, naturally!
A spokesman said Urban was busy touring but would get to it in due course.
Nicole Kidman has surprised people with some of her recent actions. For instance, five months ago she was seen dancing by herself, wearing just a singlet, at a Charli XCX concert in New York. With her hair tied back in a ponytail and wearing sunglasses, she blended in with the younger crowd and looked almost like a teenager.
Was this a sign of a midlife crisis – or second teenagerhood?
While filming Babygirl, fellow actor Harris Dickinson described her as truly exceptional. He explained: “Nicole possesses a remarkable sense of playfulness when she performs. She’s incredibly brave and willing to experiment with different approaches. She isn’t afraid to take risks.”
Then you start to think, maybe I can try things too. The rave scene, for instance, had a lot of pre-planned moments, but she really went for it. She was enthusiastically interacting with people, like grabbing and kissing them and things of that nature.
A major contributing factor was undoubtedly the sudden loss of her mother last September. She explained: ‘Losing my mother profoundly altered who I am. I used to talk to her every couple of days.’
Since she lived so far away, if I woke up at 5am, I would start my day by getting up and walking around the block. I’d then spend about an hour talking to her before anyone else in the house – the girls or Keith – woke up. That became a regular part of my daily routine, a sort of rhythm to how things flowed.
Perhaps the loss of her mother made her realise she had lived for a longer time than she had left?
Last September, after Nicole Kidman wrapped up the second season of Lioness and before she began filming the TV series Scarpetta and Margo’s Got Money Troubles back-to-back, Keith Urban put out a new album.
The album was titled – surprisingly, considering he’d been to rehab three times – High. In a heartfelt message announcing the album’s release, he explained that music and the pleasure he gets from it are the only things that have consistently stayed with him. He wrote, ‘Life is full of opposites – good times and bad, confidence and doubt, finding love and losing it… warm, exciting summers and cold, isolating winters.’
What prompted him to discuss ‘love lost’? And, you might ask, why do so many of the songs on the album seem to be about painful breakups?
Check out “Messed Up As Me.” He performs: ‘If you get angry, you tend to stay upset / And you always claim you’re alright / But we both realize that’s likely not true / You’re secretly falling apart inside / And you’re out again, just like always / You’re putting on a show, with bright red lips, and remember, misery loves company / Are you as troubled and isolated as I am?’
Regardless of whether it sparked creativity, the end of a 19-year marriage is undoubtedly a very sad time for Kidman and Urban.
