Enthusiasts of the “Extraction” series featuring Chris Hemsworth received exciting news about the franchise this year, but it wasn’t in the form of a third installment, “Extraction 3”. Instead, a television spin-off is being developed to explore the universe of these films further. There have been some casting updates beyond Omar Sy as the main character, with notable additions recently made. Actress Natalie Dormer from “Game of Thrones” has secured a role, and another star was announced just days prior.
In the upcoming Netflix series, titled Extraction, Dormer has been confirmed as a main cast member, taking on the role of Clayton Wisper – the head of a private military corporation. This marks her second project with Netflix, and given the intensity of live-action work compared to voice acting, it promises to be quite an experience for her. (Note: The Dark Crystal series was discontinued in 2020.)
The actress is most famously recognized for playing Margaery Tyrell on Game of Thrones, as her character appeared in more episodes than prominent figures like Joffrey Baratheon (played by Jack Gleeson) and Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley).

The Netflix project is categorized as an intense and suspenseful series focusing on a mercenary embarking on a perilous hostage rescue operation in war-torn Libya, navigating treacherous territories filled with armed groups. Unlike typical action films, this series will also delve deep into the characters’ complexities, as its episodic format allows for a more comprehensive exploration of their personalities and backstories.
The spinoff originates from Glen Mazzara, who is well-known for his work as a showrunner, executive producer, and writer on series like “The Walking Dead” and “The Shield”. The Russo Brothers, famous for their work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are also involved as executive producers.
As a movie enthusiast eagerly anticipating the future of television, I must share some exciting updates regarding the prospective series “Extraction.” Although it seems that the show may miss the 2025 premiere schedule, recent developments have certainly added fuel to the excitement.
It appears that Boyd Holbrook has been chosen to embody the enigmatic team leader of Extraction, known as David Ibarra. According to Deadline, this talented actor will grace our screens regularly in the series. The casting decision undoubtedly elevates anticipation for this thrilling show, further cementing its position on the cinematic horizon.
Holbrook, similar to Dormer, has previously contributed to Netflix projects. He appeared in shows such as Narcos alongside actors like Wagner Moura, Pedro Pascal from The Last of Us, and Diego Luna from Andor. Notably, he recently completed his role in The Sandman, with the series finale airing in July.
Natalie Dormer and Boyd Holbrook share screen time with Omar Sy, the only cast member confirmed when the Extraction spinoff was announced in early 2025 (Sy is also known for his roles in Netflix series such as Lupin).
If you enjoy the “Extraction” films, currently streaming on Netflix, you might notice that I’m omitting names like Chris Hemsworth from my discussion. As of now, it remains uncertain how closely the upcoming series will follow the narrative of Tyler Rake (played by Hemsworth), if it does at all.
Currently, feel free to watch the two movies available on Netflix at your convenience. Also, stay updated for any new casting announcements related to the show, which are expected in the upcoming weeks.
