How Macaulay Culkin ‘ruined’ Home Alone for his fiancée

Brenda Song has shared how Macaulay Culkin “ruined” Home Alone for her when they watched it together.

In the famous ’90s film (and its follow-up), Macaulay Culkin played the role of Kevin McCallister, a kid who had to protect his home when his family inadvertently left him behind during their vacation, leaving him to fend off burglars.

Set at Christmas, Home Alone has become a festive tradition in most households, with families gathering each year to watch the hilarious hijinks, including Culkin’s now fiancée Song. However, the actor himself apparently did not share Song’s enthusiasm for his work.

In an interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Song shared that she persuaded a hesitant Culkin to watch the movie alongside her, and now finds it challenging to appreciate it due to the emotional impact it has had on her.

When we began our relationship nearly eight years back, it was almost Christmas time and she told me, “I’ve always made it a point to watch Home Alone during the holiday season,” she shared.

Song stated that it had been about ten years since Culkin last saw the movie, and he wasn’t keen on watching it again. However, Song insisted and said, “We must watch it.

After taking a seat, Culkin started talking fondly about the filming process and disclosed everything he knew about it to his companion.

“We started watching it, and he started telling me all the behind-the-scenes stories,” Song recalled. “And I was like ‘Stop! Stop! You’re ruining it for me! You’re ruining it!'”

The Suite Life of Zack & Cody star went on to explain that she doesn’t have the same affection for Home Alone anymore, but understands why it “holds such a special place in so many people’s hearts.” She added: “It’s just, it’s hard for me now, that’s all.”
