As a big fan, I’m letting everyone know that we need to hurry if we want to catch all nine seasons of this funny show on Netflix! It’s leaving next month, so don’t miss out!
According to What’s on Netflix, all nine seasons of the popular sitcom How I Met Your Mother will be leaving the streaming service on December 3rd. The show, which originally aired on CBS from 2005 to 2014, follows Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) and his friends as they live and love in New York City. The series centers around Ted recounting the story of how he met his wife, the mother of his children Penny and Luke. The show also stars Jason Segel, Cobie Smulders, Neil Patrick Harris, and Alyson Hannigan.
I absolutely loved watching How I Met Your Mother over its nine seasons! It was consistently hilarious, and it really resonated with people. It was amazing to see the show recognized with 28 Emmy nominations – including for being the best comedy series – and to see the actors win People’s Choice Awards, an Emmy, and get nominated for their incredible performances. They all truly deserved the accolades!
Reviews for How I Met Your Mother were generally very good, and it remains highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes even years after the show ended. Across all nine seasons, the series has an average score of 84% from critics and an impressive 85% from viewers. While Season 8 received some criticism, the show managed to finish strong with a ‘Certified Fresh’ final season scoring 79%. Season 8 was the only one considered ‘rotten’ on the site, receiving a much lower approval rating of 54% and proving to be quite divisive among fans.
The popular sitcom inspired a spin-off series on Hulu in 2023, featuring Hilary Duff, Christopher Lowell, and Kim Cattrall. The new show followed Duff’s character and her friends navigating life and love in Manhattan. However, it received generally mixed reviews and was canceled after two seasons that same year.
How I Met Your Mother’s Controversial Finale Divided Fans of the Long-Running Sitcom
As a longtime viewer, I remember all the speculation during How I Met Your Mother‘s run on CBS about who Ted would actually end up with. When they finally revealed the mother in Season 8, it felt great – we got to know her, and it seemed like a satisfying direction for the show. But honestly, the series finale in Season 9 really rubbed a lot of fans – and me included – the wrong way. The way they handled Ted’s wife was controversial, and it’s still a point of debate even now, years later.
The show’s ending sparked controversy when it was revealed the mother character had passed away, freeing Ted to explore a relationship with someone else. This unexpectedly emotional and complicated conclusion surprised many viewers. One of the show’s stars acknowledged that finales are difficult and expressed understanding for the negative reactions, while also praising the creators for staying true to their original vision.
How I Met Your Mother leaves Netflix on Dec. 3.
