How ENVY secured VCT Americas 2026 spot with a one-trick Yoru player

ENVY has earned a place in the top tier of VCT Americas competition by winning the Ascension tournament, starting a new and exciting phase for the team.

Team ENVY has a history of competing at the highest levels. The team was originally discontinued in 2022 when it was bought by OpTic Gaming, but it returned in early 2025 with a completely new team. Now, this skilled group has achieved even greater success, qualifying for the 2026 VCT Americas Tier 1 season.

Who is ENVY?

In 2025, ENVY returned to VALORANT with an all-American team and a Canadian coach, Mike “Hastr0” Rufail, who brought back the well-known organization. They quickly built a strong team by signing the entire RANKERS roster in March.

RANKERS has quickly become a dominant force in North American VALORANT Challengers League (VCL). Since joining the league in late 2024, they’ve won 17 matches in a row. They continued their success in 2025 by finishing first in the Swiss Stage of North America Stage 1, earning a place in the playoffs.

The team includes well-known streamers like P0PPIN, Eggster, canezerra, and ion2x, as well as Inspire, who previously played for 100 Thieves and FaZe Clan.

  • Alex “canezerra” Banyasz
  • Eggster
  • Hunter “inspire” Schline
  • Ayan “ion2x” Rastogi
  • Matteo “P0PPIN” Weber
  • Dakota “Stunner” MacLeod (Head Coach)

On October 26th, the team defeated TSM 3-1, winning the Americas Ascension 2025 and qualifying for VCT Americas Tier 1 competition. However, they’re not just successful – they’re exciting to watch. Their bold, aggressive playstyle has quickly earned them the nickname “Paper Rex 2.0.”

The ENVY one-trick Yoru

This new team lineup has some interesting background stories. Back in February, Inspire publicly asked ENVY, on what was then known as Twitter (now X), to sign the RANKERS team. It’s not certain if that request played a role, but ENVY eventually signed the entire RANKERS lineup.

The player who really stood out, though, was a specialist with Yoru. Known as Eggster, this 23-year-old started competing in 2023. He joined the team RANKERS a year later, and that’s where he began to gain recognition. Despite becoming well-known, not much is known about his personal life – his real name is still a secret.

Eggster is a popular Twitch streamer known for his impressive and innovative use of the Yoru agent in Valorant. Since becoming a professional player, he’s focused entirely on mastering Yoru, which helped him reach the highest level of competition. Everyone is eager to see how he performs at major tournaments, and whether his team, ENVY, can qualify for international events.

What comes next?

While ENVY is being celebrated for reaching Tier 1, there’s a problem: two of their players are younger than the minimum age for competition. Canezerra is 17, and ion2x is only 16.

VCT rules require players to be 18 or older to compete in the top league. Because of this, ENVY might have to play in the major league without two of the players who qualified them, even though they earned their spot.

With two important players currently unavailable, we anticipate potential changes to the team roster in the coming months. Their long-term status remains unclear, but we expect to have more information shortly.
