Before starting the filming for Freaky Friday, the day prior, I gathered them and had them watch Freaky Friday since they hadn’t seen much of my work yet. Normally, we don’t do that. However, I wanted them to understand the importance of taking pride in one’s work, so it wouldn’t feel like a chore when saying, ‘I have to go to work.’ Instead, I hoped they would say, ‘You’re going to work?’ with excitement, as if it was something to look forward to. And that’s exactly what I aimed for – to make many people happy with our work.

Murray opened up about his role selection process during an interview with Newsweek, revealing that since becoming a father, having a “pack” (his family) significantly influences his role choices. He explained that being a parent has transformed everything for him, as he’s now mindful of how his projects will impact them at home and school. Moreover, the actor admitted that he strives to appear “cool” to his children; however, this wasn’t the case with the movie Freaky Friday. As he further discussed:

After putting it on, I faced an onslaught of criticism. ‘Really, Dad, what happened to your hair? That’s terrible!’ was one comment, followed by ‘Daddy, please don’t ever sing again.’ The reactions were overwhelming, like ‘Was that really you trying to sing?’ I responded with a laugh, saying ‘Honey, it’s meant to be bad.’ Despite my lack of vocal talent, which only added to the humor, they mercilessly teased me throughout.
