How Bruce Willis Helped Keep Things Fun While Working With Matthew Perry And More On The Whole Nine Yards, According To A Co-Star
In the minds of fans, “The Whole Nine Yards” stands out as one of Bruce Willis’ top comedies. The film finds this popular actor portraying a gangster who becomes an informant and seeks to begin anew in Montreal. However, he finds himself ensnared in the life of an unhappy dentist, played by Matthew Perry from “Friends,” who is married to a domineering woman (Rosanna Arquette) eager to claim the mob reward on his head. The movie offers plenty of entertainment, and Amanda Peet shares a unique story about how Willis maintained a light-hearted environment during filming.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the crime-comedy film, which debuted in cinemas in February 2000. In a recent red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress, who is currently featured in the Apple TV+ series “Your Friends And Neighbors” alongside Jon Hamm, reminisced about making the movie. She shared an interesting detail about the filming process, mentioning a unique item Bruce Willis had put up in his on-set living space that she felt encapsulated the overall vibe of the production. The actress remarked, “…there was this special thing that Bruce Willis had hanging around in his living space that really symbolized the whole atmosphere of making the movie.
I wanted to share with you that they were incredibly attentive towards me, and let me tell you why – being with Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry was nothing short of exhilarating! To begin with, they were just such a riot, mischievous even. Now, imagine having a disco ball in Bruce Willis’ suite in Montreal! That alone speaks volumes about the kind of time we had. All in all, it was an exceptionally memorable experience.
During the filming of “The Whole Nine Yards”, Amanda Peet was relatively new to her acting career, having only been five years removed from her debut in “Animal Room” in 1995. Despite this, she remembers her seasoned co-stars helping her avoid feeling overwhelmed. It might seem challenging to stay calm when socializing with a global superstar under the shimmering light of a disco ball.
In the gripping flick I recently watched, I found myself captivated by Amanda Peet’s portrayal of Jill St. Clair. At first glance, she appeared to be Matthew Perry’s dental hygienist, Nicholas “Oz” Oseransky. But as the story unfolded, it was revealed that Jill was no ordinary dental professional; she was a skilled contract killer, hired by his wife to eliminate him.
However, things took an unexpected turn when she developed feelings for Brice Willis’ character, Jimmy “The Tulip” Tudeski. By the end of the movie, we saw this enigmatic duo, Jill and Jimmy, basking in their newfound love, ready to face whatever life had in store for them as a content couple.
The film “The Whole Nine Yards,” boasting the skills of Michael Clarke Duncan, Natasha Henstridge, and Kevin Pollak, garnered mixed reviews from critics yet proved to be a massive box office success among viewers. The movie eventually grossed more than $100 million during its cinematic run. Later on, four years after the initial release, Peet, Henstridge, Bruce Willis, and Matthew Perry reprised their characters in the sequel titled “The Whole Ten Yards.” Pollak, despite playing a new character, was also part of this follow-up film.
If you’re intrigued to revisit the movie “The Whole Nine Yards” as it marks its 25th anniversary, unfortunately, it isn’t accessible on any subscription platforms at the moment. However, you can stream it with advertisements on Xumo. Additionally, you can rent or buy it from major online retailers such as Amazon Prime Video.
