Guy Ritchie’s new Sherlock series on Prime Video puts a fresh spin on the classic stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the characters we know and love. Young Sherlock stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Holmes, a 19-year-old, up-and-coming detective before he became the famous sleuth we all recognize.
I’m so excited to see Dónal Finn playing James Moriarty! He’s taking on a role that Andrew Scott absolutely killed in the Sherlock series with Benedict Cumberbatch, so he’s got some big shoes to fill, but I think he’ll be fantastic as Holmes’s future enemy.
Okay, so about how Andrew Scott played Moriarty… it definitely stuck with me. I told Metro that it’s hard not to be influenced by what came before, especially when you grew up watching those performances. I wasn’t consciously trying to copy him or anything, but I definitely remember watching him as a kid and it just kind of seeped in, you know?
What really stood out was how Andrew Scott and Benedict Cumberbatch weren’t afraid to take big risks with their characters and make bold choices. It was truly inspiring to watch.
Finn said he thought Scott’s performance was technically good, but lacked emotional depth. He added that Scott has always been one of his favorite actors.

I admired Andrew Scott so much during drama school that I actually had his picture on my wall as inspiration – a reminder of how fearless and creative an actor could be.
