A character briefly shown in a vision during Season 2 of House of the Dragon might reappear in Season 3. Recent news suggests filming is progressing, hinting at the eventual return of this character. While the conflict between the Greens and Blacks continues to escalate, a set photo has emerged that confirms a connection to the vision Daemon had, offering a peek at what’s to come.
A fan account for House of the Dragon posted a leaked photo from the set showing a character in green with large antlers. While some believe this is a new creature for the show, observant fans noticed the character resembles the green men seen in Episode 8, “The Queen Who Never Was.” Though new to the show, these green men will be familiar to readers of the Fire & Blood books, and they have ties to the world of Game of Thrones.
Daemon Witnesses Game of Thrones’ Future in House of the Dragon
In the episode “The Queen Who Never Was,” Alys Rivers led Daemon Targaryen to the red weirwood tree at Harrenhal. Once he touched it, Daemon began having visions hinting at future events, with clues relating to both House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones.
As a fan, one of the most striking things I’ve noticed is the foreshadowing of the Targaryen civil war – the conflict between the Greens and the Blacks that tore the family apart. Seeing dead dragons on the battlefield really hit home, hinting at the devastating losses to come. And then, the incredible imagery of rebirth with those three dragon eggs and Daenerys in Game of Thrones – it’s clear those events are deeply connected to the past.
The scene hints at the coming danger of the White Walkers, a key part of the story in Game of Thrones, particularly during the battle at Winterfell. The vision concludes with Daemon potentially seeing his own death by his nephew, Aemond, and Rhaenyra ultimately taking the Iron Throne.
House of the Dragon is set about 200 years before the story of Game of Thrones, and it tells the story of how the Targaryen family lost power. It’s the second show HBO has created based on the world of Game of Thrones. They are also planning a third show, another prequel set around 90 years before Game of Thrones, which will follow the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (played by Peter Claffey) and his assistant, Egg (Dexter Sol Answell).
This story takes place during the reign of the Targaryen dynasty, when dragons are still a recent memory. A group of unlikely friends will face great challenges, powerful enemies, and dangerous adventures.
House of the Dragon returns to HBO and HBO Max in Summer 2026.
