House of the Dragon season 2 finale release time (by time zone) and what to expect

As a die-hard fan of George R.R. Martin’s works and having followed the Targaryen dynasty since the days of Aegon the Conqueror, I must say that this season of House of the Dragon has been quite a rollercoaster ride! The seventh episode was particularly exciting, with the Hunger Games-style dragon bonding test stealing the show.

The second installment of “House of the Dragon” may not be flawless, but it’s undeniably thrilling from start to finish. We’ve been treated to many exciting scenes straight from the book “Fire & Blood”, such as Blood and Cheese, the Battle at Rook’s Rest, and more recently, the Sowing of the Seeds. While some book enthusiasts might take issue with these scenes and others (I can attest to that!), I must admit that witnessing these events unfold on screen is incredibly gratifying.

Tonight marks the conclusion, but fear not, there’s more to come! Yes, “House of the Dragon” has been granted a third season, so the Dance of the Dragons saga lives on. Don’t miss out on the thrilling events unfolding in tonight’s Season 2 finale; make sure to catch it as soon as it airs. Here’s our comprehensive guide for watching!

Season 2 episode 7 recap

The seventh episode of this season is quite thrilling, I’m glad to say. Unfortunately, the pace has been inconsistent this season, with the series focusing more on insignificant moments rather than advancing the main plot – primarily, the war. Instead of showing action, characters seem preoccupied with discussing the war. It can be a bit irritating, but in episode 7 of season 2, Rhaenyra issues a summons for Targaryen bastards to assemble at Dragonstone. The purpose? To see if any of them can command a dragon.

In a scenario reminiscent of “The Hunger Games,” several individuals believed to be Targaryen offspring find themselves in mortal peril against the lethal Vermithor. Regrettably, some lives are claimed by this fearsome beast. However, it’s Hugh Hammer who manages to form a bond with Vermithor, an accomplishment he hinted at earlier in the episode by revealing his mother was a Targaryen woman, possibly Saera Targaryen. Meanwhile, Ulf White unexpectedly finds himself riding Silverwing. To add to this twist, Addam of Hull also emerges as a dragonrider, bringing Rhaenyra’s count to four, giving her a significant advantage against the green faction.

In another part of the same episode, Daemon secures control over the Riverlands with Oscar Tully’s assistance, Jaecerys is displeased with his mother for attempting to enlist Targaryen illegitimate offspring, and Aegon finds it hard to walk. The concluding scene reveals Aemond hastening to ride Vhagar, pursuing Ulf on Silverwing towards Dragonstone. However, upon discovering that Rhaenyra has new dragon riders, he withdraws. This war is now significantly more intriguing.

What to expect from the season 2 finale

As a dedicated fan of ‘Fire & Blood’, I can’t wait for the upcoming battle known as the Battle of the Gullet, but it seems we won’t witness this epic clash in season 2’s finale. Regrettably, there’s no major battle on the horizon, at least not yet. Instead, all armies are gearing up for the battles that await us in season 3. Intriguingly, a glimpse of Tessarion, Daeron Targaryen’s newly-winged dragon, is shown in the season 2 finale sneak peek, and it’s an exhilarating sight! I can’t say for certain how much screen time she’ll get, but just seeing her takes my breath away. Furthermore, the reunion of Daemon and Rhaenyra is imminent, and I must admit, I’m feeling a mix of excitement and apprehension about how that encounter will unfold.

It’s highly probable that Aemond may stir up trouble, as hinted by the sneak peek; moreover, he plans to take Helaena and her dragon Dreamfyre into battle. Additionally, the Triarchy is set to play a significant role in upcoming events in season 3. The teaser shows several dragons, but it remains unclear how they will factor into the season 2 finale. Time is running out for us to discover the answers!
