Despite having premiered over a year ago on August 4, 2024, and not currently appearing in HBO Max’s streaming charts, it’s noteworthy that *House of the Dragon* is still ranking on iTunes, where viewers need to buy episodes to watch.
Interest in *House of the Dragon* is picking up again after news that filming wrapped up about six months after it started in March. The show is now moving into post-production and is expected to premiere on HBO in Summer 2026. This release timeline is similar to the first two seasons, which came out in August and June.
HBO seems confident in the future of the *Game of Thrones* prequel, as the original series was very successful for them. While the original show had its critics, *House of the Dragon* has generally been well-received, particularly for its strong characters, impressive visuals, and the performances of its main actors, including Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke.

Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower, hinted at a dramatic start to the new season, saying, “It starts off with a bang.” She also revealed that the first two episodes were originally intended to be the season finale from last year.
