Now that Season 3 has finished filming, the show is becoming increasingly popular on streaming platforms. This *Game of Thrones* prequel is experiencing a surge in viewers worldwide.
According to FlixPatrol, *House of the Dragon* is currently the third most popular show on iTunes in Germany (as of October 15, 2025). It debuted at number two earlier this week. The show also briefly appeared at number nine on the iTunes charts in France on October 13th, but has since fallen out of the top ten. Despite having premiered over a year ago on August 4, 2024, and not currently appearing in HBO Max’s streaming charts, it’s noteworthy that *House of the Dragon* is still ranking on iTunes, where viewers need to buy episodes to watch.
Interest in *House of the Dragon* is picking up again after news that filming wrapped up about six months after it started in March. The show is now moving into post-production and is expected to premiere on HBO in Summer 2026. This release timeline is similar to the first two seasons, which came out in August and June.
HBO seems confident in the future of the *Game of Thrones* prequel, as the original series was very successful for them. While the original show had its critics, *House of the Dragon* has generally been well-received, particularly for its strong characters, impressive visuals, and the performances of its main actors, including Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke.
Many viewers have struggled with the storytelling in House of the Dragon, particularly the frequent time jumps and uneven pacing. Despite these issues, the show has been largely successful, earning an 87% average approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and being designated “Certified Fresh” for both seasons. The first season received particularly high praise, with a 90% score and critics highlighting its compelling political maneuvering, similar to the original Game of Thrones.
The TV series *House of the Dragon* is based on George R.R. Martin’s book *Fire & Blood* and takes place almost 200 years before the events of *Game of Thrones*. It tells the story of how the Targaryen family lost power, an event known as the ‘Dance of the Dragons’.
House of the Dragon Season 3 Promises to Be The Biggest Yet
With increasing conflict throughout the first two seasons of *House of the Dragon*, Season 3 promises even more intense drama. Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower, hinted at a dramatic start to the new season, saying, “It starts off with a bang.” She also revealed that the first two episodes were originally intended to be the season finale from last year.
Wow, the second season left us on a massive cliffhanger with armies gearing up for a huge war! And honestly, the creator, Cooke, says the new season picks up right there, but everything is even more intense. He described walking onto set as feeling this incredible, ferocious energy – it sounds like things are about to explode in the best way possible. As a fan, I’m already on the edge of my seat!
House of the Dragon Season 3 is expected to premiere on HBO in 2026.
