House of the Dragon dominates streaming ratings for its season 2 finale

As a seasoned gamer and movie aficionado with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the latest entertainment trends are more captivating than ever! The recent success of House of the Dragon on Max has been nothing short of remarkable, dethroning Netflix’s reign and proving that there’s still room for new players in the game.

The final episode of “House of the Dragon” aired on August 4, and although some viewers had reservations, it proved to be a ratings success, as reported by “The Wrap Report“. This report gathers viewing data from Samba TV’s panel of over 3 million households, which is then balanced to reflect the U.S. Census. While these figures may not be as infallible as Nielsen ratings, they offer a useful insight into what people are tuning in to watch. Here are the top 10 streaming programs for the week of August 5-11:

  1. House of the Dragon (Max)
  2. Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (Netflix)
  3. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder season 1 (Netflix)
  4. Jack Reacher (Netflix)
  5. Kingdomof the Planet of the Apes (Hulu)
  6. The Umbrella Academy season 4 (Netflix)
  7. Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie (Netflix)
  8. Descendants: The Rise of Red (Disney+)
  9. Despicable Me 4 (VOD)
  10. The Instigators (Apple TV+)

Typically, Netflix reigns supreme in the rankings, but recently, “House of the Dragon” propelled Max to take the number one spot. I’m sure the management at Warner Bros. Discovery is regretting (allegedly) shifting key events from the end of the second season to the beginning of the third; had they not made that move, they could still be riding this wave of success.

You won’t get to watch fresh episodes of “House of the Dragon” for some time, but HBO plans to return us to Westeros in 2025 with a new “Game of Thrones” prequel series titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.” Let’s see if it manages to make an impact.

As a long-time fan of the Jack Reacher novels, I’ve always been captivated by the gripping stories and intriguing characters Lee Child has created. Now that I’ve discovered that the old Jack Reacher movies starring Tom Cruise are available on Netflix, I simply can’t resist the urge to revisit these thrilling adaptations! It seems like perfect timing too, given the massive success of the new Jack Reacher TV series on Prime Video. I’m eagerly awaiting each new episode and can’t wait to see how they compare with the movies I’ve grown to love over the years.

Alien: Romulus tops the box office

Moving on to cinema, let’s take a look at the highest-grossing films from the recent weekend at the box office. These figures represent the total earnings accumulated so far.

  1. Alien: Romulus: $108 million
  2. Deadpool & Wolverine: $1.14 billion
  3. It Ends With Us: $180 million
  4. Twisters: $333 million
  5. Coraline: $138 million
  6. Despicable Me 4: $847 million
  7. Trap: $62 million
  8. Inside Out 2: 1.62 billion
  9. Borderlands: $21 million
  10. Stree 2: $2 million

Following the launch of “Alien: Romulus” and the ongoing triumph of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Disney is dominating the top two positions on the box office chart, evoking a sense of 2019. “Inside Out 2” continues to be a lucrative venture for them, while a re-release of the 2009 animated film “Coraline” has fared well. M. Night Shyamalan’s new movie “Trap” has already recouped more than twice its production cost, and the video game adaptation “Borderlands” is unfortunately bombing.
