As a long-time fan of horror-comedy, I am absolutely thrilled about Apple TV+’s upcoming 10-episode series, Widow’s Bay. Having seen the work of its showrunner and creator, Katie Dippold, in films like Ghostbusters and The Heat, I can only imagine the chills and laughter this series will bring to the table, especially when it comes to a stubborn small-town mayor refusing to acknowledge danger.
In a gaming-like narrative, let’s delve into a chilling tale I call “Another Day in the Shoes of the Small-Town Mayor Who Ignored the Looming Danger”: a captivating 10-episode horror-comedy series titled Widow’s Bay, destined for Apple TV+
Apple has revealed little about Widow’s Bay for now, other than it will be produced by Apple Studios and is set in a haunted New England town. It appears that supernatural forces are endangering the townspeople, but the mayor stubbornly denies any problems exist. It seems the mayor from Amity Island has moved to this new location
In the newly created series, it’s Dippold who takes on the role of both showrunner and creator. She is also involved in its production as an executive producer. Murai, along with Carver Karaszewski and Claudia Shin, will also be executive producers. No casting details have been revealed at this time
As a die-hard fan, I’m proud to have been part of the team that penned the screenplay for “The Heat,” directed by Paul Feig. I had the privilege of collaborating with him once more on the 2016 reboot of “Ghostbusters,” where Melissa McCarthy graced our screens, and most recently on the 2023 Disney reimagining of “Haunted Mansion.” Beyond these projects, my writing resume boasts stints on hit TV shows like “Parks and Recreation” and “Mad TV.”
Murai is mainly recognized for his contributions to the critically acclaimed series, “Atlanta,” where he served both as an executive producer and director. His exceptional work on the show garnered numerous Emmy nominations. Furthermore, he has directed several music videos and episodes of various shows including “Station Eleven,” “Legion,” “Snowfall,” and “Barry.” Recently, Murai shared an Emmy award with “The Bear” team as he’s an executive producer for the successful comedy series
Among the underestimated streaming platforms, Apple TV+ offers a rich collection of chilling horror television series, such as M. Night Shyamalan’s “Servant,” “Lisey’s Story” inspired by a Stephen King novel of the same name, and “The Changeling,” alongside thrillers like “Surface,” “Silo,” “Constellation,” and “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.”
