Disney and Pixar are getting ready to release their 30th theatrical film, Hoppers, in March. While recent Pixar movies have been set in imaginative locations like a futuristic city (Elemental), inside the human mind (Inside Out 2), and outer space (Elio), Hoppers will be different. This new film will primarily take place in the natural world, similar to earlier Pixar films like A Bug’s Life and The Good Dinosaur.
Creating the visuals for Pixar’s Hoppers presented some unique hurdles. As production designer Bryn Imagire explained in an interview with MovieWeb, the team needed to realistically portray beaver habitats and the surrounding forest. Imagire noted that nature is naturally chaotic, especially details like dams and lodges. While striving for an authentic look, the team also wanted to keep the visuals clear and avoid overwhelming the audience.
It was tricky to represent nature accurately because it’s naturally detailed and somewhat chaotic. Things like beaver dams and lodges, built from countless sticks, could easily look cluttered on screen. Our challenge was to capture the beauty and familiarity of nature without overwhelming the viewer with too much detail in every shot. We wanted to draw people into the story, not distract them with visual busyness.
Nature’s Important Impact on Disney & Pixar’s ‘Hoppers’

Pixar frequently draws inspiration from the natural world in its films. As animation technology improves, audiences expect even more realistic and detailed visuals. For their latest story, which features a lot of elements like grass, water, trees, and logs – especially concerning a beaver’s home – Pixar had a wealth of visual details to create.
Early glimpses of Pixar’s Hoppers, set to release in 2026, reveal lush environments that took a long time to create. While Pixar has featured similar natural settings in other films, Hoppers stands out with its unique animal characters and interactions, particularly its large number of beaver characters.
The story begins by introducing scientists who study various animals. As the plot develops, these animals will clash with humans in a struggle for dominance, promising thrilling action. Viewers are eager to learn how this conflict will unfold, particularly as it relates to Mabel and her friends.
