Daniel Chong shares Hoppers 2D animation test footage

Daniel Chong recently unveiled an early animation test created during the development of Hoppers.

The director posted a short clip on X, formerly known as Twitter, to express gratitude for the positive reception to their movie in theaters. They shared a 2D animation test created by Lorenzo Fresta in 2020, which served as inspiration for the film. The clip shows two beavers peacefully drifting down a river.

A short clip from the movie appeared online soon after its successful opening in theaters. Variety reported that the Pixar film debuted at number one in North America, earning $46 million during its first weekend in about 4,000 theaters. It also made $42 million internationally, bringing its total worldwide opening to $88 million.

I recently watched ‘Hoppers,’ directed by Chong and written by Jesse Andrews, and I was completely hooked! It started premiering here in the US on March 6th. The story centers around Mabel Tanaka, a 19-year-old who really loves animals. She gets access to this incredible tech that lets people transfer their minds into robotic animals. It’s amazing – she actually gets inside a robotic beaver and starts talking to wildlife, all while trying to protect their home. It’s a really unique and compelling story.

The voice actors in the film include Piper Curda as Mabel Tanaka, Bobby Moynihan as King George, Jon Hamm as Jerry Generazzo, Kathy Najimy as Dr. Samantha Fairfax, and Dave Franco as Titus. The film has been very well-received by both critics and viewers. Currently, it has a 94% rating from critics and a 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
