Hopes For a New Banjo-Kazooie Are ‘Zero’ Says Composer Grant Kirkhope, as Ori CEO Laments Series Absence
It’s been approximately sixteen years since a fresh Banjo-Kazooie game was released (2008’s Nuts & Bolts), and unfortunately, Grant Kirkhope, the renowned composer of Rare hits such as Perfect Dark, GoldenEye 007, Donkey Kong 64, and the Banjo-Kazooie series, expresses no optimism about a new installment.
As a passionate fan, I’ve expressed my sentiments earlier, but here I am again, honestly confessing that I harbor no anticipation for another Banjo game. You dedicated followers would instantly criticize it, regardless of its quality, and history shows us that such projects seldom succeed.
Later on, Kirkhope expressed his hope that his tweet didn’t seem unkind, acknowledging the delightful nature of the Banjo fan community. Meanwhile, Thomas Mahler, CEO of Moon Studios – the team behind Ori – believes a new Banjo game could be successful, potentially competing with 3D Mario on Xbox.
According to Mahler, Xbox doesn’t seem to offer many high-quality family-friendly games these days. Instead, it is more recognized for series like Forza, Gears of War, Halo, with not much else getting significant recognition.
For some time now, it seems like no progress is being made on the ‘Banjo Kazooie’ project despite the fact that an exceptionally skilled developer might be able to create a ‘Banjo’ game that could compete with 3D Mario and potentially achieve similar sales figures,” he continued.
There’s a strong desire for a fresh installment of Banjo-Kazooie, but will Microsoft (Xbox creators) bring it to life? It has been quite some time since the duo made an appearance, and they have remained out of sight since their re-release in the Rare Replay collection back in 2015. We’re calling for their return; it’s high time!
I’ve expressed this sentiment before… However, I must admit that I harbor little optimism for another Banjo game. Given the passionate fanbase, even if it turned out to be exceptionally well-crafted, they would still criticize and dismiss it outright. History has shown us that such attempts rarely yield positive results.
