HoYoverse is preparing to launch the update for Honkai: Star Rail, Version 3.4, titled “For the Sun is Set to Die,” on July 2nd, 2025. This update includes numerous limited-time events, the long-awaited collaboration with Fate/stay night, exciting story developments in Amphoreus and Penacony, and the introduction of potent and eagerly anticipated 5-star playable characters such as Phainon, Saber, and Archer.

Main Story Progression: A Turning Point in Amphoreus

As a gamer, I’m diving headfirst back into the fray, picking up where the Chrysos Heirs left off in their desperate mission to restore the last Coreflame to its rightful place within the Vortex of Genesis. Up until now, Phainon has been a silent ally, but this time, he’s stepping out from the shadows and taking center stage. This isn’t just another level; it’s the turning point where my decisions as the Trailblazer could alter the destiny of the entire galaxy.

We’re diving deep into the intricacies of the Aedes Elysiae, tracing its origins with Phainon, his journey through the Flame-Chase, and the weighty responsibilities that rest upon him. I’ve been anticipating this tale’s resolution for ages, and I’m certain the backstory will pack a powerful punch.

New Playable Characters in HSR Version 3.4

Phainon

The highlight of the update, Phainon, is a five-star physical destruction character, and he’s as stylish as he is effective. His abilities revolve around collecting Coreflames to transform during battle, which establishes a territory that increases his damage while momentarily removing allies (fear not, their buffs remain intact).

He exudes an aura of a lone hero, capable of carrying the team by himself. Upon transformation, he taps into powers from Origin, Catastrophe, and Titans of Foundation. His special ability eliminates common enemies on the battlefield without even triggering a fight, making exploration significantly easier.

Saber (Fate/stay night Collab)

Indeed, you’ve got it correct! The legendary character, Saber, is now joining the Astral Express world in the Fate/stay night crossover. She appears as a 5-Star Wind unit on the Path of Destruction. Her ultimate ability, Excalibur, not only delivers Area of Effect Wind damage but also enhances her basic attacks!

She amplifies her inner strength in combat, enabling her to execute additional moves and recharge energy, much like a queen does. She’s earned a spot on my team now!

Archer (Free Collab Unit)

You’ve got an excellent opportunity coming up! Starting July 11th, 2025, you can obtain Archer, a top-tier character completely free of charge! This Quantum Hunt character excels when it comes to dealing focused damage. His unique ability is spamming skills repeatedly while in the Circuit Connection state.

Indeed, he deploys “Unlimited Blade Works” as his final move. It comes with follow-ups, skill point regeneration, and a kit so fashionable it’s hard to beat. Who doesn’t appreciate a powerful move that’s also free? We certainly do!

Rerun Banners and Character Enhancements

As a gamer, I was genuinely taken aback when I found out that Silver Wolf, Kafka, Jingliu, and Blade are all receiving significant upgrades – from Eidolon boosts to combat overhauls. On top of this exciting news, we’ll now have the option to switch between classic and enhanced battle modes, giving us greater freedom in customizing and enjoying our favorite characters.

Holy Grail War: Trailblazing Meets Fate

Beginning on July 11th, 2025, the extraordinary crossover event titled “Sweet Dreams and the Holy Grail War” commences in Penacony. The storyline seems reminiscent of a tale where a pioneer is drawn into a fantastical battle royale, with characters summoning historical spirits as their Servants, if that rings a bell?

You’ll find yourself working alongside (or facing off against) acquainted characters such as Aventurine, Robin, and Boothill in the midst of a surreal war. With hints of lore and battle-oriented excitement, I’m all set for this wild ride. And it looks like another Fate character will make an appearance too. Keep watching!

Now you can skip dialogues, coming as a QOL improvement

This update is full of surprises; the eagerly anticipated skip dialogue option has arrived at last! If you’re revisiting story content or simply looking to breeze through non-essential events, it couldn’t have come at a better time. Moreover, the beloved Origami Bird minigame is back, adding some refreshing humor to what could otherwise be an intense update.

From the grand scale of the Era Nova to the surprising anime crossover I didn’t anticipate, Version 3.4 is like a delicious feast.
