The popular game Honkai: Star Rail has added a new playable character, Gilgamesh, from the Fate series. Gilgamesh is a powerful 5-star Lightning type character available in Version 4.4. This guide will show you how to build and optimize Gilgamesh, covering his skills and suggesting the best setup to make him as effective as possible.
Honkai: Star Rail Gilgamesh Build Guide: Kit Explained
Okay, so Gilgamesh is a super powerful 5-star character in Honkai: Star Rail, and he’s all about dealing Lightning damage! Basically, the more my teammates use their skills and Ultimates, the more ‘interest’ Gilgamesh builds up. Then, he can use that ‘interest’ to take extra turns, make his skills even more effective, and unleash a massive, devastating Ultimate! Plus, his Ultimate completely ignores the enemy’s defense, which is awesome – it just straight-up deals huge damage.
Gilgamesh boosts the attack and critical damage of all teammates. If he’s teamed up with Saber, he’ll perform an area-of-effect follow-up attack and gain stacks that further enhance his abilities. Below is a comprehensive breakdown of his skills, ultimate ability, talents, techniques, and passive abilities.
Skill
By utilizing his abilities, he earns King’s Acknowledgement, which lets him bypass 30% of a target’s defense when inflicting damage for 3 turns. He also deals Lightning damage to a single enemy equal to 280% of his own attack power.
Ultimate
Okay, so this move is pretty awesome! I basically hit every enemy with a lightning attack that does 400% of my character Gilgamesh’s attack power. But it doesn’t stop there – it actually hits them ten separate times, each dealing extra lightning damage based on his normal attacks. It’s like a rapid-fire shockwave!
Talent
Gilgamesh receives a buff called King’s Burden when an ally uses their Ultimate ability. This increases Gilgamesh’s own Ultimate damage by 40% and lasts for 3 turns. He also gains Interest whenever another ally takes a turn; each point of Interest boosts his Speed by 10%. The first time he accumulates 10 Interest, Gilgamesh enters the Interest Piqued state, which allows him to use a special Skill for the rest of the battle. Using this Skill resets his Interest counter.
Technique
This technique creates a special zone lasting 10 seconds. While active, enemies under the ‘King’s Permission’ effect will pause all actions. Attacking an enemy with ‘King’s Permission’ starts combat with all affected enemies and deals Lightning damage based on Gilgamesh’s attack power. Gilgamesh also gains 3 points of Interest.
Passive Skills
- Epic’s Opening: When Gilgamesh uses his Ultimate, he gains 2 points of Interest. When other ally characters use their Ultimates, Gilgamesh additionally gains 2 Interest points and regenerates a fixed amount of Energy equal to 30.0% of the Energy consumed.
- Hero’s Hauteur: During the battle, every 1 point of Interest gained by Gilgamesh increases his CRIT DMG by 25.0%. This effect can stack up to 6 times.
- Hegemon’s Strife: While Gilgamesh is on the field, it increases the ATK of all ally targets by 20.0% and CRIT DMG by 20.0%. If his Max Energy exceeds 140, every 1 excess point of Max Energy additionally increases ATK and CRIT DMG by 1.0%, up to a maximum of 100%.

Best Team Comps for Gilgamesh in Honkai: Star Rail
Gilgamesh / Saber / Mortenax Blade / Huohuo

Saber and Gilgamesh are a strong offensive duo. Gilgamesh powers up their powerful attacks (Ultimates), boosts his own damage, and enhances Saber’s damage when he uses his special ability. The Mortenax Blade further improves the team’s attack power, provides energy for everyone, weakens enemies’ defenses, and deals extra damage. Huohuo rounds out the team with healing, increased attack strength, and more energy.
