Honest Trailers shades House of the Dragon season 2 as "season 1.5"

As a die-hard fan of all things Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon, I must admit, my feelings about the second season are a bit like Daemon Targaryen himself – complex and full of contradictions. On one hand, I absolutely loved the Battle of Rook’s Rest and the Red Sowing. Those episodes were pure dragon-fire gold! But on the other, I can’t help but feel a tad disappointed that we didn’t get the grand finale we were promised back in 2022.

As a dedicated fan, I must say that the final chapters of House of the Dragon unfolded a fortnight ago, stirring a wave of varied responses. While the Battle of Rook’s Rest and the Red Sowing were undeniably captivating, there was an underlying sense of dissatisfaction among viewers as the series seemed to wrap up without the anticipated climactic event or grand finale. This has led to whispers in the fandom that a few episodes may have been deferred for Season 3, leaving us eagerly awaiting more Targaryen tales!

Honest Trailers, which makes funny faux trailers about popular movies and TV shows, definitely picked up on that, needling the new season as “House of the Dragon season 1.5″ and bemoaning that we have a long time to wait before we can get to the stuff we thought we would get to back when season 1 ended in 2022. “Now, HBO’s delivering all the dragon-filled battles of yore…next season, which is two years from now,” the new trailer quips. “You’ve heard of filler episodes. Now prepare for an entire filler season, as we’ve gone from the last finale, where battle lines were drawn and war was on the horizon, to this season’s finale, where battle lines are drawn, and war is on the horizon.”

Feel free to check out the video at the top. Honest Trailers often provide some laughs, but opinions may differ based on personal taste. The border between poking fun at a thing’s flaws and criticizing it can be rather thin. If you were a fan of House of the Dragon’s second season, you might not resonate with complaints about Daemon’s seemingly prolonged participation in a season-long Halloween event. However, if you’re like me, you might find that perspective more relatable.

Also, this Honest Trailer pronounces “Criston” ad “Christian.” Disqualified!

Despite HBO not announcing the release date for House of the Dragon season 3 (or possibly season 4, concluding the series), it looks like we won’t get to watch it until 2026, which is quite a ways off. In the interim, they plan to debut another Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, in the following year. Maybe Honest Trailers will find fewer things to mock about that one.
