Homelander and 5 characters from The Boys we love to hate

As a long-time fan of comics and superhero stories, I must say that my experiences with certain characters in “The Boys” have been nothing short of grueling and unsettling. The sheer level of depravity these individuals exhibit is both fascinating and deeply disturbing. Let me tell you about the ones that left the worst impressions on me.

As a passionate gamer, let me share my thoughts on “The Boys”. It’s an outstanding TV series without a doubt, but what truly hooks us is the array of antagonists. The reason we root so hard for Billy Butcher, Hughie, and their crew isn’t just about their success; it’s about watching the villains crumble. They’ve earned it, with their countless vile actions that leave us exclaiming, “I truly despise this character!” Time and again, they push our buttons, making us question our tolerance for evil.

As a long-time fan of superhero stories, I have to admit that The Boys has quickly become one of my favorite shows due to its unique take on the genre. With my extensive background in comic books and TV series, I can confidently say that the wicked villains in this show are what makes it so engaging to watch.

6. Todd

As a die-hard fan, I can’t wait to dive into our discussion starting with Todd, the seemingly innocuous character on the roster. Unlike the superpowered beings we’ll delve into later, Todd hasn’t been involved in any lethal or grave acts of harm. But here’s the twist – audiences loathed him so intensely that it was astonishing! I can’t think of a single soul who didn’t erupt in cheers when Mother’s Milk finally landed that punch on Todd. It was a deeply satisfying moment, serving as an effective kickoff to wrapping up the third season of The Boys.

Todd unwaveringly adhered and wholeheartedly backed Homelander, accepting everything the controversial “superhero” stated without reservation. His blind devotion was a significant factor in audience disfavor towards him. Moreover, he frequently clashed with Mother’s Milk, one of The Boys’ most cherished characters. As a result, when it came time to pick sides, viewers instinctively sided with M.M., making their decision effortlessly.

Despite Todd not being a popular figure to admire, his death was undeniably unjust and unfair. It was Homelander who orchestrated A-Train, Black Noir, and The Deep to take Todd’s life, along with other devoted followers of The Seven. This tragic event certainly redefined the saying “never meet your heroes.” As Mother’s Milk aptly put it, “[Todd] may not have been my favorite person but… he was innocent.” Similarly, Monique’s new partner was in no way harmful to anyone.

… But we still enjoyed the Season 3 punch. That was well deserved.

5. A-Train

At this point, you might be wondering: “Wasn’t A-Train given a fantastic redemption arc in season 4 of The Boys? Why is he still on this list?” While it’s true that A-Train has become somewhat of a hero, his past actions can’t be ignored. He was the catalyst for Huge’s involvement in the chaotic events that have unfolded across the last four seasons of The Boys.

In the heart of my gaming world, the darkest chapter unfolded when A-Train, under the influence of Compound V, mercilessly ran over Robin, a character I’d grown to care for. His chilling indifference towards lives he had claimed before Season 4 was downright chilling. It’s hard to forget that cringe-worthy moment when a young cancer patient asked to meet Translucent, only to encounter A-Train instead. The awkwardness was palpable, and it was clear that Reggie wasn’t there to comfort the child but to boost his own reputation, an attempt that, fortunately for us, failed miserably.

Despite A-Train recently showing signs of improvement, his past actions have left an indelible mark, ensuring his place on the infamous list. Fans will undoubtedly relish their ongoing disdain for the character, drawing pleasure from reminding themselves of his past transgressions.

4. Tek-Knight

In a single episode, I managed to worm my way into the ranks of The Boys’ most loathed personalities. And trust me, it wasn’t due to being overly friendly or charming; there was some seriously reprehensible behavior on my part that earned me this unwelcome distinction.

In this reimagined take on the Batman character, the vigilante known as Tek-Knight is portrayed by The Boys as a cunning multi-millionaire with a secret lair brimming with various gizmos. However, unlike the original, this version of Tek-Knight harbors racist sentiments. Audiences recoiled at his words when he made a disparaging remark to A-Train: “The Vernon family were slave catchers in the past… I’d wager you would have given my great-great-grandfather quite a chase, but we would have caught you.”

Not only did Tek-Knight add insult to injury by sexually assaulting Hughie at a vulnerable moment following his father’s demise, but he was such an abhorrent individual that the person who raised him chose to take his life away. This gives you an idea of just how vile he truly was. Despite having minimal screen time in both The Boys and Gen V, it was still enough to paint a clear picture of his despicable nature.

3. The Deep

Ah, The Deep – a character seemingly overshadowed by the rest of The Seven. However, don’t let his low status fool you. He’s not only insecure but also easy to control, which might sometimes evoke sympathy, although it shouldn’t. His cruelty, manipulation, and knack for lying are all too evident. To make matters worse, he has a disturbing penchant for questionable practices involving marine life, making him far from endearing. It was through his ruthless actions that Starlight first learned the harsh realities of the superhero world. And let’s not forget about Ambrosius, his octopus companion who met an unfortunate end due to The Deep’s negligence.

By the start of Season 4 on “The Boys”, even A-Train, a character previously considered a superhero but known for his despicable actions, couldn’t stomach The Deep. To quote Reggie Franklin, “Deep, just letting you know, I’ve always found you unbearable.” This sentiment was shared by viewers everywhere, making it incredibly satisfying when Starlight and A-Train confronted him in the fourth season of “The Boys”.

As someone who has been deeply immersed in both acting and watching movies, I can confidently say that when we find ourselves disliking a character in a film or series, it is often because the actor portraying them did an exceptional job. This was certainly the case with Chace Crawford’s performance in his roles. His dedication to his craft and commitment to his characters are truly commendable. I have seen him bring even the most despicable characters to life in a way that makes us love to hate them, or vice versa. It takes a great deal of talent to evoke such strong emotions from an audience, and Chace Crawford has it in spades. His performances are always memorable, and I eagerly await his next role.

2. Stormfront

After Homelander’s introduction, some questioned if The Boys could create another villain as ruthless as him. However, season 2 surprised us all by introducing Stormfront, who was equally maniacal and cruel. At first, she might not seem like an evil character, but when we peek behind the curtain, we see just how horrific a person she truly is.

As a gamer, I can relate when an actress like Aya Cash mentions that playing her character was a tough call. In a chat with Vulture, she opened up about the intricacies of making that choice.

As someone who has always been fascinated by superheroes, I must admit that this story took me by surprise. Having grown up reading comics and watching movies featuring these larger-than-life characters, I never imagined that they would be portrayed as such morally complex individuals. However, as I delved deeper into the narrative, it became increasingly apparent that these superheroes are far from perfect. They exhibit a range of unsavory behaviors, showcasing the darker aspects of humanity that often go unacknowledged in our world. While it was initially jarring to see my childhood heroes depicted this way, I couldn’t help but appreciate the complexity and authenticity that the story brought to light. It serves as a reminder that even the most heroic among us are capable of making mistakes and grappling with moral dilemmas.

In a particular sequence, Stormfront informs the young Ryan about a concept called “white genocide,” which had led people to pursue her relentlessly. This statement left even Homelander, a powerful individual, utterly bewildered. However, this prelude culminated when Ryan, using his laser vision, defeated Stormfront. The triumph wouldn’t have been as fulfilling if she wasn’t such an evil character.

1. Homelander

Alrighty then, let me set the stage here. I’m talking about this character, Homelander, who’s been making heads roll – literally! He’s pushed people out of skyscrapers, split folk in two like they were cardboard boxes, and violated Butcher’s wife in a way that no one should ever have to experience. And guess what? That’s just the beginning. The real horror lies beneath the surface.

The icing on the cake is Antony Starr’s exceptional acting. He masterfully depicts both the ruthless and tender aspects of Homelander, making the character iconic as no other actor could. Moreover, it’s our disdain for this character that has kept us hooked over the course of four seasons. We eagerly anticipate his ultimate defeat at last.

In a nutshell, the greatness of a hero is measured by the strength of its adversary. Now that Homelander has seized power over the nation, Butcher and The Boys must raise their efforts significantly if they aim to overthrow him. The stage is now perfectly set for Season 5 of the Amazon Prime series to surpass all previous ones, leaving us eagerly anticipating its finale!
