Homeland Security fires back after Chappell Roan’s anti-ICE outburst at LA concert

The Department of Homeland Security responded to criticism from singer Chappell Roan, who spoke out against ICE during a recent concert in Los Angeles.

The popular new singer paused during her Friday night performance to share how far she’s come, from her roots in Missouri to building a life and finding love for her new city, California.

Roan, performing at Brookside at the Rose Bowl, shared that they’ve lived here for nine years, but the first five were very difficult. They originally come from Missouri, according to Variety.

The singer, famous for songs like “Good Luck, Babe!” and “Pink Pony Club,” shared that she was moved by how Los Angeles recovered after the recent, destructive wildfires.

I don’t have the words to fully express how much I loved seeing Los Angeles come together – especially in communities like Altadena and the Palisades – to support each other. It really hit me how fortunate I am to live and work here, and how important it is to give back to a city that’s always been so good to me.

Moments later, she declared: ‘F**k ICE forever.’

When she said it again, the crowd exploded with cheers and began chanting against the federal agency responsible for immigration enforcement.

Tricia McLaughlin, who leads public affairs for the Department of Homeland Security, quickly reacted to Roan’s comments with a strong statement to TMZ.

McLaughlin stated that Pink Pony Club is a positive force, while emphatically condemning pedophiles and asserting the need to remove them from society. He urged people to maintain perspective, saying, ‘Get a grip.’

Her response came amid renewed scrutiny over U.S. immigration enforcement practices.

According to a September report in The Guardian, government data reveals that most people held in U.S. immigration detention have no criminal record. This means that ICE is now detaining more individuals with clean records than those accused of crimes.

Roan has not yet publicly responded to McLaughlin’s remarks.

The Daily Mail has contacted her team for a statement, but they haven’t responded yet.

Roan is one of many Hollywood actors and actresses who have publicly criticized President Donald Trump’s recent policies of large-scale deportations and ICE raids.

In August, Kim Kardashian publicly criticized the harsh methods used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and spoke in support of families who have been separated.

She expressed support for ICE’s stated goal of protecting the country and deporting dangerous criminals. However, she also stated that witnessing the separation of innocent, hardworking people from their families in a cruel manner compels her to speak out and advocate for what is right.

Kardashian highlighted the positive impact of immigrants, describing them as integral members of the community – our neighbors, friends, classmates, colleagues, and even family – and noting that Los Angeles flourishes thanks to their contributions.

She concluded: ‘There HAS to be a BETTER way.’

Over the summer, Olivia Rodrigo, 22, also condemned the raids in a passionate social media post.

As a lifelong Angeleno, I’m truly heartbroken by what’s happening with the deportations in our community. It feels deeply wrong to treat people – our neighbors, the very people who *built* this city – with so little respect. Los Angeles wouldn’t *be* Los Angeles without immigrants, and seeing them subjected to this kind of treatment, without due process or even basic empathy, is just awful. It’s not just a political issue for me; it’s about the heart and soul of our city.

Rodrigo vowed to continue taking a stand for ‘freedom of speech and the right to protest.’

Jenna Ortega shared her sadness, explaining that people in Los Angeles are having their lives and relationships disrupted, things they worked so hard to create.

She encouraged her followers to both listen with compassion and express their anger, stressing that turning a blind eye to injustice is only possible for those who aren’t directly affected by it.

Conan Gray strongly supported immigrants, calling them essential to America’s strength. He also criticized Trump’s deportation policies, describing them as un-American and a violation of the Constitution.

He urged his supporters to understand their own rights, as well as the rights of immigrants in their communities, and to keep speaking out and raising awareness about these issues.

In June, Eva Longoria also slammed ‘un-American’ ICE deportations.

The actress stated that everyone agrees our country doesn’t want criminals, rapists, drug dealers, or anyone who causes trouble – and that’s not what’s currently taking place.

Longoria criticized Trump, arguing he went too far with his actions and didn’t keep his pledge to only deport individuals with criminal records.

She explained that these incidents are occurring in everyday places like birthday parties, elementary school graduations, and even Home Depot – and the people involved aren’t criminals.
