Home and Away’s Emily Weir breaks her silence on co-star Orpheus Pledger’s prison sentence and reveals the truth behind his dramatic fall from grace

Emily Weir, known for her role on the TV show Home and Away, has spoken about her reaction to the imprisonment of her former colleague, Orpheus Pledger.

The Australian actress, age 35, shared how a six-month prison sentence for a co-star affected the atmosphere on the set of the Channel Seven series she’s been on since 2019, where she plays Mackenzie Booth.

Pledger’s conviction in September was shocking to the show’s cast, many of whom hadn’t been in contact with him since he exited the series in 2019.

Before the more serious allegations came out, Orpheus was posting strange and unsettling content on social media, including nude photos, according to Emily, who discussed it on the A Bit Rogue podcast.

In 2021, Pledger surprised his followers by sharing a revealing video of himself exiting the shower.

Emily added that people who knew him at the time were talking, and she heard rumors as a result.

He had already departed the series, and leaving means you’re no longer associated with Home and Away.

Emily noted that because so many actors come and go on Home and Away, the cast meets a wide variety of people, which can sometimes create difficult situations.

Many people experience this – it’s a common part of life. Like any organization, we have challenges, and it’s truly heartbreaking. This is often the reality of dealing with addiction, she explained.

It’s a really difficult situation for everyone affected, but ultimately, if someone struggling with addiction isn’t willing to change, there’s nothing anyone else can do to help them.

As a lifestyle expert, I was really saddened to hear the news last September – reports surfaced that Pledger was facing jail time due to repeatedly violating court orders. It’s always disheartening to see someone struggle with legal issues, and this seemed like a particularly difficult situation.

After wasting his opportunity to change, the 32-year-old was sentenced to six months in prison, with credit for 127 days he’d already served.

In August 2024, the actor was sentenced to seven months in jail after being convicted of assaulting a woman on two separate occasions in March. The case was heard in Victoria County Court.

However, this was later reduced to a two-year community correction order.

According to the Herald Sun, he returned to court because he broke the rules of his parole.

Breaches included 19 unexplained absences and drug use involving methamphetamine and cannabis.

Court documents show Pledger was arrested on June 23rd after going back to the home of the person he harmed.

After the woman called 000 to alert authorities, Pledger was taken to the hospital.

Judge Michael Tinney stated that Pledger had finished 30 hours of his court-ordered 150 hours of community service.

I’ve been following this case closely, and it came out in court that Mr. Pledger didn’t follow the rules of his order because he was reportedly unwell and had trouble with getting around on public transport. It sounds like things were really difficult for him.

The court also heard that Pledger was ‘ducking and weaving’ around obligatory drug tests.

While under a court order, Pledger lowered his dose of antipsychotic medication without telling his doctor.

I’ve been following this case closely, and it seems like the actor’s lawyer explained to the court that he just didn’t fully grasp how serious his legal issues were. It’s a really unfortunate situation, and it sounds like there was a misunderstanding about the consequences he was facing.

The judge scolded Pledger, explaining to the court that he had wasted his chance because of the court order.

Pledger was arrested in March 2024 after attacking a woman on two occasions.

A motion-activated camera partially recorded one incident, showing Pledger pulling a woman to the ground by her hair and then stomping on her head.

After being released on bail in late April for a mental health evaluation, he went on the run, leading to a widespread search.

Pledger admitted guilt to charges of causing injury and assault. His lawyer stated that his drug use had increased significantly in recent years.

He started his acting career at nine years old, appearing in commercials and the TV show Silversun. In 2011, he joined the cast of Neighbours.

The performer later played the role of Mason Morgan on Home and Away from 2016 to 2019.
