Home and Away veteran dies after cancer battle: ‘One of the best’
As a dedicated follower of Home and Away, I have witnessed the magic that goes behind the scenes, and today, I mourn the loss of a cherished member of our family – Bruce Murray. I remember him as a beacon of positivity, always ready with a joke to lighten up the set. His laughter was infectious and his spirit unmatched.
A beloved member of the Home and Away production crew has died.
Bruce Murray, who worked as a key grip behind-the-scenes of the soap, had been battling stage 4 oesophageal cancer for more than a year before his death.
Former and current cast members of the enduring Seven series expressed heartfelt tributes on social media platforms, honoring their valued colleague.
In her tribute, Emily Weir, the actress portraying Mackenzie in the show, shared a funny moment from the Home and Away set featuring Murray.
She captioned the video: ‘Love you Brucey, you beautiful thing.’
Sarah Roberts, who departed from the show in 2021, shared an online collage or album (referred to as a scrapbook) that includes pictures of her fellow cast and crew members from ‘Home and Away,’ including one image of Murray.
Sarah posted on her Instagram stories on Monday, “He’s always keeping things exciting, whether it’s on the film set or on the dance floor.
One reason I cherished going to work was that I could hardly contain my laughter over his humor and dance routines. You’ll be greatly missed, Brucey!
2023, October struck me like a punch. I stumbled upon the heart-wrenching news about Murray’s health struggle. A GoFundMe campaign sprang up, aiming to alleviate financial burdens on his beloved family during his treatment journey. As an ardent fan, my heart ached for him and pledged my support.
‘Recently our beloved, good friend Bruce Murray was diagnosed with Stage 4 Oesophageal Cancer, which has unfortunately gone into his blood stream and formed multiple cancers on his bones – ribs, spine, collar bone, sacrum, and hips,’ his GFM page explained.
Starting from the 3 priority sites – spine, ribs, and hips, Bruce will initiate Radiation Therapy. Following this, he’ll begin a combination treatment involving Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy.
‘It’s going to be a long journey but we are positive and know our cherished Brucey is a strong one.
Should you wish to contribute, feel free to do so. Every little bit makes a difference for Bruce and his family during their difficult time, providing some ease as they navigate the challenging path ahead.
Through a GoFundMe campaign, a total of $51,000 was collected to cover Murray’s medical expenses. This sum came from generous donations made by Georgie Parker, Phillipa Northeast, Matt Little, and Ada Nicodemou.
For more than two decades, the well-regarded tech professional has been a valuable asset in the movie and TV business, serving as a grip, lead grip, and crane operator.
It is a highly skilled role which involves equipment that is used to mount cameras.
Murray’s TV credits included All Saints, Above the Law, Breakers and Good News Week.
