Home and Away Star Reveals Shocking Hallmark Movie ‘Cult’ Confession

Tammin Sursok didn’t know she was part of a Hollywood cult until it was too late.

Originally known for her role on Home and Away, this actress now residing in Nashville with her TV producer husband Sean McEwen and their two children, Phoenix (age 11) and Lennon (age 6), reveals to Stellar this week that she has become part of the devoted following for Hallmark Christmas movies.

As a devoted performer, I’ve had the privilege of being part of approximately 1,500 TV episodes, whether it was through my roles in Pretty Little Liars, Home and Away, or The Young and The Restless.

In simpler terms, you might have appeared on several diverse TV series, such as Hannah Montana, among others. However, here, Hallmark movies are considered almost sacred. It’s as if they belong to a secret society or cult. I didn’t realize I was joining this group until I actually became a part of it.

In today’s television landscape, the term “Hallmark movie” has become a catch-all phrase for romantic comedies shown on TV, regardless of who produced them originally. These movies share a common style and theme, making any movie resembling them referred to as a “Hallmark movie.

In many stories, both at Christmas and Valentine’s Day, there’s a common thread: A busy city woman, focused on her career, eventually returns to her hometown, uncovers the enchantment of the season, and unexpectedly falls for a charming, plaid-loving local man.

Tammin, 41, starred in her first Hallmark movie in November.

The Logie-winning actress, filmed Trivia At St. Nick’s during the American summer.

The story features her character as a type-A astronomy professor who finds herself confined with her fellow academics during their yearly Christmas Pub Quiz Competition.

She confided that the heat was unbearable. To cope with her excessive sweating, she placed soda cans – both Fanta and Sprite – inside her pants. Despite wearing a beanie, jacket, and scarf, she was still perspiring heavily,” she shared.

‘It is not glamorous. The whole time I’m like: “Just move your feet so you don’t pass out.”‘

Due to the consistent storyline structure found in Hallmark movies, they’ve turned out to be a goldmine for creating memes and have even sparked interest for an artificial intelligence project.

A humorist and author trained an artificial intelligence chatbot by feeding it a thousand hours of Hallmark films, then tasked it with crafting its own script. The outcome was a touching storyline featuring a grieving, solo parent who runs a quaint local ornament business specializing in snow globes.

As a fervent enthusiast, I can’t help but be deeply moved by the current political landscape. Every time I tune into the news, it seems like all I see is fear, division, and rage.

At times, people simply crave a soothing, not-too-hot-not-too-cold bath for comfort, as Tammin put it.

‘And I think why these movies do so well is because there’s just no drama.’

The actress said it took her a long time to embrace her Aussie roots in the US.

‘It took me a long time to be like: I’m allowed to say I love being an Aussie.

‘And there’s so much of America that I love too, and it’s also given me a lot – like my husband!

It’s perfectly fine for me to express that I cherish both equally, as each one offers extraordinary aspects that I find truly remarkable. I consider myself incredibly fortunate and grateful to have the opportunity to explore and appreciate both.
