Fans were thrilled Sunday night when Hollywood star Jonathan Bailey unexpectedly showed up at a screening of “Wicked: For Good” in Sydney.
The 37-year-old British actor surprised everyone at an IMAX screening in Darling Harbour by unexpectedly walking onto the stage during a showing of the new, eagerly awaited movie. The audience was completely shocked.
Radio personality Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small got the crowd excited before hinting at a surprise guest, playfully asking if it could be someone from the movie Wicked he’d spotted near a movie theater.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen countless amazing entrances, but this one was truly special. The energy in the room shifted, and then the announcer’s voice boomed, welcoming the incredibly talented Jonathan Bailey – who, of course, plays Fiyero – to the stage. The crowd went wild, and honestly, it was a moment I won’t soon forget!
The audience exploded with excitement when Bailey walked onto the stage, smiling and waving. Everyone was surprised to see a famous movie star show up at their Sunday night movie.
Bailey posted on Instagram that he’d just arrived in Australia after a long trip, but couldn’t help coming back to what he playfully referred to as ‘the true Australia’.
He announced his return to Australia, saying he’d missed it and wanted to come back to where the press tour for the first movie began last year. He shared this in a quick video just before going on stage.
‘And I thought, why not end the press tour for Wicked: For Good back where it started?’
I was so excited to hear that the actor shared his family is actually visiting Australia! He’s amazing – he apparently surprised them at an earlier screening before going to the IMAX one. What a sweet thing to do!
He chuckled, saying, ‘I believe this is the fourth-largest screen in the Southern Hemisphere!’ He shared his excitement about surprising some people, adding, ‘It’s wonderful to be back in Sydney and to continue supporting Wicked: For Good.’
Bailey is gaining attention following a huge year, recently being named People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive for 2025.
He found out about the news while on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon a few weeks ago, and playfully suggested he hoped it would lead to people treating him differently.
‘It’s an honour of a lifetime,’ he told Fallon.
‘And I want to say, Jimmy, thank you so much for turning it down so I could be here.’
When asked if he anticipated a change in how people treated him, Bailey chuckled and replied, ‘I really hope so.’
Jonathan Bailey became internationally known in 2020 for his role as Lord Anthony Bridgerton in the popular Netflix series, Bridgerton.
He’s now appearing in major films, including the upcoming Wicked where he plays Prince Fiyero alongside Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, and Jurassic World: Rebirth, scheduled for release next year, where he’ll portray Dr. Henry Loomis.
