Hollywood star makes thinly veiled dig at Dakota Johnson whining over Madame Web

Approximately a year ago, Russell Crowe publicly criticized Dakota Johnson over her negative comments about the flop superhero film Madame Web, and it appears that another celebrity is following suit by making a subtle jab in her direction now.

In simpler terms, Rachel Brosnahan, starring as Lois Lane in the upcoming Superman remake, wonders why individuals agree to such roles but later criticize them.

In a conversation with Amanda Seyfried during an interview on Monday, the 34-year-old former star of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel expressed his feelings by saying, “You know what? I don’t intend to criticize or belittle other actors.

However, for a brief moment, it was fashionable to dislike superhero films and to dismiss projects like these as less than stellar. Regardless of your decision – whether you choose to embrace this view or not – stick with it firmly.

Seyfried responded: “To be honest, I don’t believe we should label it a superhero movie continually, as it encompasses more than that. I think the audience will pick up on that. It’s significant to have a character like this superhero, who is simply striving to do his best.

35-year-old actress, daughter of Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, portrayed the character of psychic paramedic Cassandra Webb in S. J. Clarkson’s movie from Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. However, the film managed to bring back just $100.5 million against its production budget of $100 million.

Among critics, Madame Web garnered a relatively low 11% positive response (based on 265 reviews) and an average audience rating of 53% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Last year, Dakota told Bustle, “I had never attempted something similar before, and I likely won’t ever again since I find little connection with that realm, a fact which has become clear to me.

Occasionally in this line of work, you agree to a project, thinking it will be one way, only to find that during production, it transforms into something else entirely. And you can’t help but wonder, “What just happened?

Approximately three months following Johnson’s remarks, Russell Crowe, known for his roles in movies such as Man of Steel and Thor: Love and Thunder, found himself compelled to voice a reply.

The 61-year-old Oscar winner expressed that it seemed unusual to him when you mentioned signing up for a Marvel film, along with a world featuring animated characters… and he felt there wasn’t enough emotional depth provided in your explanation.

“Here are the tasks assigned to these positions. Your job is to fulfill these duties. If you’re hoping that this will be a transformative experience for you, I believe your expectations might not align with reality.

At the start of this past month, the actress from Materialists, stating that the script underwent significant alterations, attributed the less-than-satisfactory performance of Madame Web to the collective decision-making process, asserting, “I bear no responsibility for it.

Dakota explained to the Los Angeles Times, “It’s difficult to create either art or something enjoyable when the work is produced by individuals devoid of creative instinct. It’s a challenging task indeed.

Regrettably, my involvement with Madame Web evolved differently than initially expected. It transformed into a different project, and by then, I found myself more like a passenger rather than the driver. Such occurrences are common in larger-scale productions; big-budget films often face challenges and may not always succeed.

During last Thursday’s episode of Hot Ones, Johnson jokingly downplayed herself once more when host Sean Evans commented that she wasn’t a superhero. In response, she humorously admitted, “I, too, am not a superhero. I’ve tried, but alas, failed.

Some actors who have played superhero roles in the past but later expressed criticism towards the genre include Christian Bale (from Thor: Love and Thunder), Anthony Hopkins (Thor), Sally Field (The Amazing Spider-Man), Ethan Hawke (Moon Knight), Stephen Dorff (Blade), and Mickey Rourke (Iron Man 2).

In a state of great excitement, Rachel looks forward to presenting her unique interpretation of the charming Daily Planet reporter, who has been played by actresses like Amy Adams, Kate Bosworth, Erica Durance, Teri Hatcher, Margot Kidder, and Phyllis Coates in the past.

‘I’ve never done something that has a baked-in fan base already,’ Brosnahan said.

People hold incredibly intense emotions towards Superman, the universe he inhabits, and those who govern it. It’s thrilling to be associated with something that elicits such fervor from others. Admittedly, it can also be quite daunting.

The award-winning actress hinted at an extraordinary trick she carried out on set, something she can’t reveal details of, as it wasn’t related to wires but seemed as if it should have been: ‘It was quite unusual, yet I’m not supposed to discuss it, and it felt like it ought to involve wires. It was absolutely wild!’

In a new take on the classic character, Superman, directed by James Gunn with an estimated production cost of $225 million, is set to hit American theaters on July 11. Joining the cast are actors David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and Isabela Merced.

Rachel has other projects coming up, such as:

1. The second season of the Apple TV+ thriller titled Presumed Innocent.
2. An adaptation of King Lear directed by Bernard Rose for Dali Films. This is a modern take on the classic Shakespearean play.
3. A television series based on Halina Reijn’s adaptation of Lisa Taddeo’s 2019 novel Lois & Varga, which will be released on Amazon Studios.

In a personal note, Brosnahan and her husband Jason Ralph recently marked their ninth wedding anniversary on June 6th.
