Hollywood producer in tears as he returns to destroyed Malibu ‘dream home’ amid LA fires

In a poignant television appearance aired on KTLA Sunday, writer-producer Max Borenstein revisited the ashes of his Malibu home, which was destroyed by the recent Los Angeles fire, expressing his feelings.

The executive producer of ‘The Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty’ stated, ‘This is my project,’ implying ownership. He added that he hadn’t anticipated success, saying, ‘I didn’t expect it to be mine and I didn’t think it could happen because, who gets such an opportunity?’

Courtney Friel, a KTLA reporter, shared clips from her report where Borenstein examined the wreckage of a coastal residence.

Friel expressed gratitude towards Max Borenstein, acknowledging his courage for being open during the journey of returning home. He also conveyed his regret that Borenstein and the entire PCH Dog Beach community in Malibu had to endure the loss due to the Palisades Fire.

Friel said that ‘sadly there are going to be thousands of stories like this in LA.’

During the segment, Borenstein, known for his producer roles on TV series like Monarch: Legacy of Monsters and The Terror, strolled through the remnants of the house, sharing his fondness for the neighborhood.

Borenstein stated, “This location has been home for generations of people for about 40 years, and I myself have resided here for the past three.

Borenstein pointed out that the place is charmingly referred to as ‘dog beach’, explaining that it’s so named due to the abundance of people allowing their dogs to play freely in a nearby bay without leashes.

Borenstein opened up about the life experiences he remembered during his three years in the home.

He expressed, “I’ve experienced both loss and sorrow in this place, and so have others around here. Yet, each day when I gaze upon the sea, it serves as a constant reminder of the world’s breathtaking beauty.

‘I would do anything I could do to rebuild here, and I hope we’re allowed.’

Borenstein picked up a Pellegrino bottle that had endured the fire, intending to make it the central element of his artwork.

Borenstein stated, “I will keep this item as it is the only piece from this home that I cherished deeply.

Apart from his acting roles, Borenstein is well-known for his writing contributions too. He has scripted a variety of movies such as Godzilla, the face-off between Godzilla and Kong, Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and Hypnotic.

According to reports by the Associated Press, officials confirmed on Monday that at least 24 individuals have lost their lives in this incident. They also mentioned that the number could rise further as they continue rescue operations and search for those who are still missing.

On Monday, officials reported that the Palisades Fire had been contained to 11% and the Eaton Fire to 27%, following their destructive path over approximately 62 square miles.

According to the National Weather Service, they issued red flag warnings due to sustained winds of up to 50 mph, which are set to worsen the current weather conditions from Monday through Wednesday, reaching a maximum on Tuesday.

On Monday, President Joe Biden called on Congress to increase their efforts and allocate the many billions of dollars necessary for rebuilding the affected regions. He stated that the federal government intends to cover costs during the upcoming 180 days.
