On Saturday, it appears that social media users have collectively decided who they want to see impersonate Tim Walz, potential vice presidential running mate of Kamala Harris, on Saturday Night Live.
A single day following Harris’ announcement of his choice, people started heatedly discussing among themselves who could portray him on NBC’s late-night humor series.
Despite speculation that Maya Rudolph may return to play Harris in the show next year, during the 2024 presidential campaign, there’s curiosity about which actor or actress will join her as a co-star in Saturday Night Live’s political satire segments for this upcoming election season.
Among those suggested for X were well-known figures like Kelsey Grammer and Drew Carey, but it seemed Steve Martin stood out as the most likely choice.
On Tuesday, there was a noticeable surge in mentions of Martin on the platform once known as Twitter, with numerous users pointing out his striking similarity to Minnesota’s governor, who is 60 years old.
Following Walz’s selection, one X user wrote: ‘SNL get Steve Martin on the phone NOW.’
That post earned more than 9,000 retweets.
If Steve Martin is made an SNL regular for the first time thanks to Tim Walz, it would undoubtedly be the most miraculous event I have witnessed.
A third fired: ‘If we don’t get Steve Martin as Tom Walz on SNL I’m gonna be disappointed at the missed opportunity.’
Others admitted they would be ‘crushed’ to see any other actor play Walz.
As a devoted follower, I came across a campaign poster featuring Harris Walz, adorned with images of Rudolph and Martin, which was recently shared by the digital media company, Betches.
Following the online discussions, the renowned humorist, aged 78, expressed his thoughts on the speculation about him becoming Harris’ vice presidential candidate.
In a recent Instagram Threads post, I jokingly mentioned that I’ve found out Tim Walz is planning to hit the road with Marty Short.
Martin mentioned their upcoming comedy tours, known as “The Dukes of Funnytown,” that will be happening nationwide this autumn.
It’s uncertain whether Martin, a resident of the Upper East Side, can attend the live tapings in New York City due to his packed tour schedule.
Rudolph is expected to return to Saturday Night Live, to play Vice President Kamala Harris.
Since President Joe Biden stepped away from the presidential race, I, along with countless other enthusiastic supporters, have been urging that remarkable actress to bring back her captivating character once more.
One user on Instagram suggested, ‘Girl, you’re correct! Get some rest now because it looks like you’ll be incredibly busy. #Kamala2024’

During an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2019, Harris expressed that she found the representation quite complimentary.

The versatile actress earned an Emmy award in 2020 for her portrayal of then Senator Harris.
The deadline for producing season three of Loot on the popular Apple TV+ series has been shifted, allowing for accommodations in the schedule due to her commitments leading up to the election.
Saturday Night Live will kick off its 50th season September 28.
