Hollywood legend, 84, says he was tapped to play James Bond in Octopussy before Roger Moore stepped back in
James Brolin dropped a bombshell revelation that could have changed the course of his career.
85-year-old actor Brolin looked back on the occasion when he was given a chance to play James Bond in the 1983 movie ‘Octopussy’.
He was tapped to play 007 after Roger Moore swore he would never do another Bond film.
According to Brolin’s recollection shared with People, since he was away, I took the opportunity to visit and there I encountered everyone. After that, I secured my own apartment and began collaborating with the stunt team. Eventually, Cubby Broccoli offered me a position.
In my case, I hadn’t finalized any agreements just yet. Upon returning to Los Angeles, I needed to gather my belongings as I was anticipating a year-long absence.
‘And I got a call saying Roger decided to do one more, and I was out,’ he added.

Brolin went on to explain that at that point in his career, he was looking for his next big thing.
I had recently wrapped up my role as George Lutz, the family head, in the critically acclaimed movie “Amityville Horror.” The experience was nothing short of thrilling for me.
In his observations, he pointed out that ‘Amityville’ had the record for the highest gross among independent films, leaving people unsure about how to handle me due to my unique character.
He shared that he was given an opportunity to play Superman initially, but he declined as the idea of hanging from wires while dressed in a large red cape didn’t resonate with him. It simply wasn’t the path he wished to follow.
Later on, having played various roles and with the passage of time, he came to understand that his true passion lay in acting as characters.
He expressed his enjoyment for portraying Ronald Reagan, Clark Gable, and the character who went insane in Amityville, saying that he truly enjoyed each role. (He made this statement to the media outlet.)
‘And I’ve done a lot of different characters that people aren’t familiar with. That’s my favorite.’
He went on to say, “Being a top-tier actor, always looking good, and delivering lines flawlessly holds no appeal for me. Yet, I find myself in this situation, or have for some time.

Actor Brolin has been married to Barbra Streisand, who is now 83 years old, since 1998. Recently, the singer posted a special message on Instagram, celebrating their 27th wedding anniversary.
‘Tonight marks our 29th meeting from that blind date, and exactly 27 years have passed since we tied the knot. My dear, I continue to cherish you. Yours, B xo.’ She added this message alongside an old photo of us. ❤️
The couple, in fact, came across each other for the first time on a blind rendezvous. Their introduction was orchestrated at a gathering where their mutual acquaintances hosted a dinner party.
‘Everyone could see it immediately,’ Brolin’s manager Jeff Wald told McCalls in 1998.
They never lifted their gaze, nor engaged with others, it seemed they didn’t eat either. In the end, they departed in unison.
Due to the constant attention that trailed Memories’ singer wherever they went, the couple preferred going on drives in Brolin’s truck for their dates. They frequently ventured an hour or more into San Bernardino County, California, with Brolin driving and Streisand preparing sandwiches while seated.
As a die-hard admirer, I can confidently say that Barbra has never ventured into such domains. She’s yet to explore the gritty, lesser-known facets of our great nation. (Magazine reference implied but no longer applicable)
An intriguing detail about them is that they abstained from intimacy until their marriage, and it took him asking her to marry three times before she agreed.

In a chat with CBS Morning host, Gayle King, she playfully remarked, “I need to give him a three-year trial period.
It appears they’ve reconciled for times when they abstained from intimacy prior to their wedding, as discussed in a recent interview on Today in April.
Brolin revealed ‘The best investment we ever made is our mattress,’ adding ‘We love to sleep late.
‘We (also) do a lot of our work — on the phone, on paper, reading — right next to each other.’
