Hollywood actress who starred with late Matthew Perry on Friends is seen on rare LA outing… can you guess who?

A well-known actress, with a career spanning nearly four decades, was seen out and about in Los Angeles this week. It was a rare public appearance for the star.

The 64-year-old actor is known for many roles, including a memorable part on the popular show Friends, where they acted alongside the late Matthew Perry.

She’s also appeared in projects like the 1998 film The Parent Trap and the television show Everybody Loves Raymond.

The actress was born in New York and began her career in the entertainment industry in the early 1980s.

Maggie Wheeler is best known for her role as Janice, the recurring girlfriend of Chandler Bing on the TV show Friends, which she played from 1994 to 2004.

The actress was seen taking a casual walk in Los Angeles on Monday, chatting on her phone as she went.

She was wearing a dark navy sweater with jeans and a denim jacket.

Wheeler put on brown boots and slung a light green bag over her shoulder before heading out for the day.

The actress completed her outfit with blue and gold necklaces and small gold earrings.

Her locks flowed down naturally past her shoulders and she also held her smartphone in her hand. 

Born in New York, actress Mary Wheeler started her career with a small role as a nurse in the 1982 film, Soup For One.

I remember when she first started getting noticed! After a few smaller parts, she landed a role in ‘New Year’s Day’ with David Duchovny – it came out in 1989, and I was so excited to see her in it. It was a really cute romantic comedy.

During the 1990s, she guest-starred on popular TV shows including L.A. Law, Seinfeld, The X-Files, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Ellen.

Starting in 1994, Christina Wheeler became known for her recurring role as Janice on the TV show Friends, where her character had an on-again, off-again romantic relationship with Chandler Bing (played by Matthew Perry).

The show featured a talented cast including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer.

Maggie Wheeler became famous for playing Janice on the show, instantly recognizable for saying ‘Oh. My. God’ in a distinctive high-pitched voice and with her unforgettable laugh. She appeared in 19 episodes.

She discussed the character in an interview on the Still Here Hollywood podcast back in April.

The actress remembered needing to hide in her dressing room to avoid overwhelming attention from the live audience, as her character had become very popular.

‘I wasn’t allowed to wander around craft services, they made me stay in my dressing room.’ 

Wheeler described the experience as feeling like a rock star. He explained that walking on stage and immediately getting a strong reaction from the audience – gasps, laughter, and cheers – was incredibly rewarding and created a powerful wave of energy.

Elsewhere during the podcast interview, the star explained how the Friends cast was ‘super close.’

She described the set as unique, saying she thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the actors she worked with, the writing, and especially Janice.

In October 2023, Perry died at his Los Angeles home at the age of 54. His death was caused by accidental drowning in his jacuzzi, which occurred after he had taken ketamine.

The doctor who provided the drug to Perry before he died received a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence this month after admitting to four counts of illegally distributing it.

When the actor unexpectedly passed away, many friends and fellow celebrities shared heartfelt messages, and Wheeler was among them.

Sharing a picture of herself with Matthew Perry from their time on Friends, she expressed her sadness, writing: ‘Such a huge loss. Matthew will be deeply missed by everyone.’

Though your life was far too brief, the happiness you gave to others will never be forgotten. I’m incredibly grateful for every creative experience we had together.

In 2021, two years before he died, James Michael Tyler reunited with his Friends co-stars for a special reunion show.

Wheeler shared that Perry’s comedic timing and delivery actually inspired the famous laugh Janice used on the show.

Matthew Perry is hilarious. From the moment I saw him and he started speaking, I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep a straight face. His character was meant to be funny, but honestly, I was worried I wouldn’t make it through even one scene without bursting out laughing just from being around him.

Honestly, seeing them together just clicked. I remember looking at them, and I just burst out laughing – it was one of those perfect, spontaneous moments. It felt completely natural, like it was meant to be, right then and there.

She recently lent her voice to the character of Shirley in a 2025 episode of Bob’s Burgers and also starred in a short film called Being Dead Should Be Easy, which was released earlier this year.

Wheeler provided the voice for a nurse character in the 2025 animated movie Dog Man, which also featured Pete Davidson, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live.
