Actress Jessica Oyelowo says a television producer insulted her, calling her ‘stupid and annoying,’ after she shared the news that she was expecting her first child.
David Oyelowo’s wife, 49, shared that an incident occurred in 2001, and she believes very little has improved in the industry regarding how women are treated since then.
She discovered she was pregnant after starting a new job – she’d already signed her contracts and begun costume fittings before realizing it.
She didn’t mention the specific shows, but explained she did some television work – a few episodes of a show in 2001.
I told the lead producer first. I said, “I wanted to let you know I’m pregnant. I’m doing really well, and I’m young and healthy.”

‘I just wanted to let you know so you could be prepared.”
He made a disrespectful and offensive statement, blaming women for the failure of his projects by accusing them of having babies and calling them unintelligent.
‘Things haven’t changed that much [since].’
Jessica and David met in their teens at a summer theatre camp and later married in London in 1998.
David Oyelowo, known for his role in Silo, shared that his wife is a member of Mensa, a society for highly intelligent individuals. He discovered her exceptional IQ score – which was remarkably high – while she was being tested for ADHD.
He shared with The Guardian that his four children are neurodiverse and possess unique strengths he views as superpowers. He expressed deep pride and gratitude in being their father.
The couple share are parents to four children, Asher, 25, Caleb, 20, Penuel, 17 and Zoe, 13.
He credits their successful 26-year marriage to a few firm rules, like always resolving conflicts before bed and making sure they see each other at least every two weeks.

My wife and I made a pact early in our marriage – we vowed to never be apart for more than two weeks. And honestly, after 26 years, we’ve managed to stick to it! There was one time, though, when she was visiting Sleepy Hollow, and we were separated by just 11 hours – it felt like forever! But we’ve held true to our commitment ever since.
He explained the importance of resolving conflicts immediately, saying, “Don’t go to sleep angry.” He believed that letting disagreements fester overnight would only make them worse, like a growing illness.
It happens quickly—you lose sight of the original issue, and things devolve into a battle of pride, ultimately leading to failure.
I’ve been following David Corenswet and Taylor Russell’s careers, and it’s been amazing to see them both in Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves! And now, David’s got a new project I’m really excited about – he’s starring in the Apple TV+ show Government Cheese. I can’t wait to see what they do next!
