Hollyoaks star ties the knot with her long-term fiancé in a lavish ceremony in Italy – three years after cancer battle

Hollyoaks star Abi Phillips has tied the knot with her fiancé, Gav, in a stunning ceremony.

31-year-old actress, known for her role as Liberty Savage on the soap opera, shared pictures of her extravagant wedding in Italy on Instagram.

In 2022, a thyroid cancer diagnosis was confirmed for Abi following tests on two growths found in her neck. Remarkably, she made a quick recuperation during the very same year.

Now, she exchanged vows surrounded by her dearest relatives and acquaintances, at the exact spot where the couple got engaged back in 2023.

They spent a substantial amount of money on various locations, among them a castle, and elevated the event further by arranging an impressive fireworks show.

The contented pair was spotted striking poses against an attractive setting, while enjoying the balcony of Villa Cavazza in Modena.

On her special occasion, Abi radiated more joy than ever before, showcasing her breathtaking, off-the-shoulder white lace gown in photos from the event.

Meanwhile, the handsome groom opted for a traditional black three-piece suit.

In the post, several images showcased Abi and Gav, who appeared perfectly like new spouses, striking poses against a charming landscape as their backdrop.

In the caption, Abi posted: ‘I’ve been needing to pinch myself these past few days as it still feels surreal that I got to marry the one I love with all the significant individuals around us at our ideal locations… @gavgilly, we had an incredible time!!’

In May 2023, after being together for 13 years, Abi made public her engagement, delighting her followers with the announcement on Instagram.

Abi shared a photo of herself displaying her stunning ring, taken while she was striking a pose next to Lake Garda in Italy, following a vacation with her significant other.

She captioned her post: ‘So this happened last night! 

Our most enchanting week at Lake Garda, spent with my cherished soulmate, culminated in us becoming engaged.

‘The most perfect proposal at sunset at the edge of the lake.

Over the past eleven years, they’ve been the most wonderful years of my life, and I eagerly anticipate spending an eternity with them.

Last year, Abi was diagnosed with thyroid cancer following tests on two growths discovered in her neck. In 2022, she shared this information publicly.

At one point, Abi informed her audience that initially, a doctor had assured her not to worry because of her youthful age. However, she sought a second opinion following Demi Jones’s public disclosure and sharing of the location of her own tumors on Love Island, which increased awareness about the issue.

Initially, television actress Abi was taken aback when she learned about her cancer diagnosis, sharing candidly, “I took these photos while waiting for my scans and after my biopsy, chuckling at how overdressed I seemed in a hospital before an event, not even imagining that the news I’d receive two weeks later would be what it was…

she had been informed earlier that the bumps were not cause for concern, and it was probably just her recuperating from a minor sickness.

Previously, a doctor had sent me away following the discovery of two lumps in my neck. They dismissed it, stating that I was young and it wasn’t likely to be anything serious. They suggested I was recovering from a cold or perhaps my body was dealing with some other infection.

Even though it was what I desired to hear, I still wanted to verify every detail for my own mental tranquility.

I visited a specialist, and right away, she expressed her worry about the location of my lumps. She then recommended an immediate biopsy and various scans due to this concern.

Later, a consultant shared the unfortunate news with Abi: her cancer required immediate surgery and radiotherapy treatment.

She stated that she wouldn’t have sought help from a specialist had it not been for Demi publicly discussing her thyroid cancer experience on social media. Upon observing this, she realized that her own lumps were located in the very same spot.

At sixteen years old, Abi discovered her stardom on the soap opera Hollyoaks, appearing as Liberty in 2010. Additionally, she gained attention for composing the hit single “Missing You,” which was integrated into Steph Cunningham’s final scene.

The character of Liberty Savage is now played by Jessamy Stoddart, who took on the role in 2018.
