Hollyoaks star Steph Waring recalls being told she would die when she dropped to less than four stone during 25-year eating disorder battle

Steph Waring has shared that doctors warned her she faced life-threatening health problems and needed to gain weight while she was battling anorexia.

The 47-year-old actress, who previously starred in Hollyoaks, shared that her eating disorder started when she was only 10. She became hooked on the positive attention she received when people commented on her weight loss.

In a YouTube video, she shared a difficult experience from her teenage years. She explained that when she was 15, a doctor told her she was severely ill and unlikely to live long, describing her weight as under four stone and admitting she was frightened.

Steph’s desire to lose weight spiraled into an unhealthy exercise routine. She worked out three times a day, sometimes pushing herself to extremes like running up and down stairs 100 times.

The actress, known for her role as Cindy Cunningham on the soap opera, became dangerously underweight, dropping below 4 stone, and required medical attention.

She explained that the doctor diagnosed her with anorexia, and she felt relieved to finally have a name for what she was experiencing. It validated her feelings and confirmed that something was indeed wrong.

Honestly, it happened so fast. I just… disappeared. I lost everyone, and it wasn’t a gradual thing, it was like I was fading away, becoming a ghost of who I used to be. I had no personality left, just… nothing. And that’s what nobody ever talks about when they talk about wanting to be thin – they don’t see what it actually does to you, to who you are inside.

Steph described herself as a ‘chubby child’ and was often called ‘fat’ by her peers.

The actress, known for her role in a soap opera, overcame her eating disorder six years ago. Now, she shares videos on Instagram to promote positive body image.

This follows Steph’s announcement that she had her breast implants taken out because of severe menopause symptoms.

In a video on Instagram, she explained that although her breast implants were perfectly fine, she decided to have them removed. Starting perimenopause at 43 and menopause at 45 led her to want to eliminate anything artificial from her body.

Stephanie shared that she’s been struggling with a lot of difficult symptoms and really wants the opportunity to feel like herself again.

I’m sad to share that I’m having my implants removed. If you’re going through something similar, please know that you’re not alone.

She announced on social media that she finally had her breast implants removed after considering it for years. She’d had them for 14 years.

The actress explained that she didn’t make this decision quickly, and it’s been on her mind for some time. She emphasized that she wouldn’t tell anyone else what choices to make about their own body.

I’m just sharing my personal experience, particularly after going through early menopause and realizing I needed to stop struggling against my own body.

Honestly, I’m not entirely sure what I’ll feel right away, but this feels like a really good move for my overall wellbeing. It’s about giving my body a chance to rest, decluttering things internally, and just hitting the reset button. I’m excited to see how it unfolds!

I’ll be happy to talk more about my explant surgery when I feel up to it. Right now, I’m focusing on resting, recovering, and starting this new phase of my life.

‘I’m now home and recovering well. Thank you to everyone at Pall Mall Medical ..shoutout to Diane!’

The actress, a mother to Mia, 19, and Lexi, 15, has spoken about getting breast implants to increase her bust size to a D-cup after having her youngest child. She said the surgery helped her feel more confident.
