Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson seen for the first time since horrific treadmill accident that left her hospitalised as she enjoys night out at the theatre

Nikki Sanderson was seen publicly for the first time on Wednesday night after a serious treadmill accident sent her to the hospital last week.

The Hollyoaks actress, aged 41, seemed cheerful while attending a performance of Death On The Nile at The Lowry Theatre with her mother, Jude.

The actress looked relaxed and comfortable on her outing, pairing a timeless blue denim jacket with flowing, cream-colored wide-leg trousers.

She completed the relaxed look with white trainers and a brown leopard print cross-body bag.

Even after what she’d been through, Nikki looked fantastic, greeting the cameras with a bright and cheerful smile when she arrived at the event.

Nikki recently went out, only a week after a scary accident sent her to the hospital. She was injured on a treadmill, which caused severe scrapes – removing ‘several layers of skin’ – and resulted in a ‘glued chin’.

She posted a video on Instagram showing her hilarious treadmill mishap, and advised her followers not to attempt the same thing themselves.

In the video, the celebrity tries to run sideways on the treadmill, but slips and falls, hitting her face on the moving belt. This results in a visibly injured and bleeding chin.

She captioned the post: ‘TW: Epic treadmill fail… this one hurt (crying emoji) wait for it…

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe what happened! I ended up in the hospital because, well, let’s just say things got a little… intense. I had to get my chin *glued* back together – can you imagine?! And it wasn’t just that! They had to remove layers and layers of skin from my arms and knees. It was horrifying, but honestly, it just proves how dedicated I am! It’s all for the love of… well, you know. Totally obsessed, and worth every single scrape and peel!

Please don’t attempt this yourself, everyone. Just a quick thought… This whole situation was entirely my own mistake, and not the fault of the treadmill (😂).

The treadmill incident happened shortly after Nikki shared stunning photos of herself in bikinis on Instagram. These sizzling snaps were taken during her sunny vacation in Majorca last month.

The actress, who departed from the Channel 4 series earlier in the year, looked stunning in a pink striped outfit while relaxing in the sun next to a pool.

Nikki put on a triangular, orange and white checkered bikini as she continued to work on getting a tan.

The actress showed off her fit stomach while lounging in the sun, and she was wearing Ray-Ban sunglasses.

The soap opera actress smiled brightly for photos during her trip, with her damp, brunette hair swept away from her face.

She wrote: ‘Same spot, different bikini’.

Nikki revealed in March that she had quit Hollyoaks after starring as Maxine Minniver for 13 years.

Prior to shooting her last scenes in April, the actress shared with The Mirror that leaving the show was a very tough decision.

Okay, so she *finally* talked about it, and honestly, it broke my heart a little. She said leaving was so hard for her, because Maxine… oh, Maxine! She said Maxine is a huge, huge part of her life – and she emphasized ‘huge’ twice, can you believe it?! – and that she’s genuinely loved being around her. I mean, you could just *feel* how much this meant to her, even just reading those words!

It wasn’t easy to decide It’s time”. It wasn’t a quick decision; I wrestled with it for a long time. I really had to consider all sides before making up my mind. Luckily, I was able to discuss it with people I trust and get their perspectives.

I really appreciate having had a stable period for a while, and now I’m ready to accept the uncertainty of the future and not knowing what will happen next.

She stated she isn’t finished with acting in soap operas and would gladly return to Coronation Street if the opportunity arose. She had previously been known for her role as Candice Stowe on the show.

Nikki joined the cast of Hollyoaks in 2012 and has become a huge fan favourite over the years.

Throughout her time on the show, she’s been involved in several powerful and difficult stories, such as experiencing domestic abuse with Patrick Blake, being sexually assaulted after an evening out, and receiving a diagnosis of Munchausen’s syndrome for her character.

I’m hearing that the actress has made the decision to move on from her character, Maxine, and pursue some exciting new projects. It’s bittersweet, of course, but she’s ready for a change! We’ll see her final scenes on screen soon, so be sure to tune in. It’s going to be a lovely farewell to a character we’ve all grown to love. It’s a big move, but I’m thrilled for her and what’s next! Change is good, you know? And stay tuned for updates on what she’s up to!

According to a source who spoke with The Sun, she informed her superiors of her intention to depart. She had recently celebrated her 40th birthday and believed it was the appropriate moment to bid farewell to Maxine.

‘She’s keen to explore other opportunities and is excited to get back out there.

For months, the show’s producers have been planning how Maxine will leave the series. They’ve assured fans it will be a respectful and memorable send-off for the character, and viewers should anticipate plenty of dramatic moments before her final appearance.

Hollyoaks isn’t the only TV show that Nikki has appeared on.

Between 1999 and 2005, the star took on the role of Candice Stowe in ITV’s Coronation Street.

In 2006, she appeared in Holby City as Monica Southworth.

From 2008 to 2009, Nikki portrayed Dawn Bellamy on Heartbeat, and in 2012, she also took on the part of Amy Harris in Casualty.

Throughout her career, she has received nominations for numerous television awards. In 2014, she took home the award for Best Actress at the Inside Soap Awards.

The actress has received nominations for several prestigious awards, including Best Actress at the British Soap Awards, Best Soap Actress at the TV Choice Awards, and a nomination for Serial Drama Performance at the NTAs.
