The popular London-based, period detective series, affectionately known as “Bookish,” has recently unveiled some thrilling news regarding its upcoming season.
It was previously announced that another season was in the works before the first one even began airing, given the anticipation surrounding the show “Bookish.” However, due to its impressive ratings, creator and main actor Mark Gatiss (known for “Sherlock”) has recently revealed some updates about it on the official U&Alibi Instagram account.
Today, we went over the fantastic scripts for the second season of “Bookish” as Mark Gatiss posed next to a “Season 2 Read Through” sign in this old photo.
As a thrilled enthusiast, I can’t help but echo the sentiment expressed by those words: “Roll on 2026!” This phrase seems to hint at a potential timeframe for the return of our beloved series, which is nothing short of exciting news! Previously, it was rumored that the cast and crew were gearing up to film new episodes during the summer months.

Enthusiasts swiftly expressed their joy in the comments section, with one declaring it as “tremendous news” and another exclaiming it to be an “extraordinarily great day!
The show, called “Bookish“, has been highly praised by critics as well. On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season is currently rated a perfect 100%, with Guardian calling it an “excellent entertainment” and noting that it’s “carefully crafted, smoothly flowing, and quite addictive.” Additionally, Digital Spy gave it a four-star review, labeling “Bookish” as one of the year’s most pleasant TV surprises.
The TV show “Bookish” is described as an unusual detective drama, set amidst the lively, perilous, and tumultuous London of the 1940s. Its main character is Gabriel Book, a rebellious bookstore owner who helps solve intriguing police cases.
In addition to Gatiss, the thrilling lineup also features Polly Walker from “Bridgerton”, Daniel Mays known for “Line of Duty” and “A Thousand Blows”, Blake Harrison famed for “The Inbetweeners”, and Connor Finch, who starred in “Professor T”.
Bookish aired on U&Alibi and is also available as a box set on Sky, Virgin, and NOW.
The latest print edition from Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is out now! You can grab a copy at your local newsstand or purchase it online for only £8.99.
