Hit British detective drama branded ‘even better than Sherlock Holmes’ returns to TV tonight

The popular detective series Grantchester is back on ITV tonight for its next-to-last season. Robson Green returns as DI Geordie Keating, investigating crimes with the help of the local vicar, in a show that’s been a hit for over a decade.

James Norton originally played the first vicar, but Tom Brittney took on the role starting in season four, and Rishi Nair became the vicar in season nine.

I’m so excited! The new season 10 kicks off tonight on ITV at 9pm! And the best part? A new episode will be released every Wednesday for the next eight weeks, so I can look forward to it each week!

The show has become incredibly popular with viewers, offering a cozy and intriguing experience they really enjoy.

I haven’t been so engrossed in a British detective show since Jeremy Brett played Sherlock Holmes – and this series is even better, if that’s possible.

One viewer commented that the show has never had a disappointing episode and consistently delivers quality. They were particularly impressed by how each installment feels fresh and original, and appreciated how the main characters’ personal stories enrich the overall narrative.

Okay, so as a fan, I got super excited when I saw a picture of Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch hanging out again last year – it really looked like a potential Sherlock comeback! But honestly, that excitement quickly died down, because it turned out it was just a friendly reunion, not any official announcement about more episodes.

People assumed the reunion hinted at Norton’s return for the second-to-last season, but it turned out to be a complete accident.

Last month, during a press conference, Green described a funny moment. He was having dinner with Kacey Ainsworth, and like most people, they ended up spending the time talking about themselves and sharing old memories.

A really tall, magnetic guy walked in and sat in the corner, reading. I couldn’t believe it – was that James Norton? It was! He looked up, said ‘What the…?!’, and we both reacted the same way. Then we just started chatting about old times.

Green also shared that Norton and Brittney joined the cast and crew at the show’s wrap party.

It was a truly beautiful night. As Green explained, everything just seemed to fall into place. There was a real sense of joy, and executive producer Emma Kingsman-Lloyd gave a wonderful speech reflecting on the incredible journey we’ve all shared.
