As someone who keeps a close eye on celebrity lifestyles, I’ve been following Hilary Duff’s recent openness about her friendships with Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato. She’s been sharing some behind-the-scenes stories about what it was like growing up alongside them as fellow Disney Channel stars, and it’s really giving us a glimpse into their experiences navigating fame together.
Hilary Duff became famous in 2001, at just 13 years old, when she starred in the popular TV show Lizzie McGuire. This role launched her career during the show’s most successful years.
Selena, now 33, first became well-known in 2007 through her role on the Disney Channel show Wizards of Waverly Place. Demi, also 33, gained recognition the following year in the TV movie Camp Rock.
Even though Hilary Duff became famous on the Disney Channel before other young actresses, she didn’t feel obligated to mentor them.
You know, looking back, it’s funny how things come up in conversation! On the ‘Therapuss’ podcast recently, I was chatting with Jake Shane and I realized Selena and Demi both came to me for advice or support way back when – years ago, honestly! It’s a reminder of how long we’ve all known each other and navigated this crazy life.
Honestly, it was just so heartwarming. They were incredibly sweet and kind to me, showering me with affection and telling me all about how much they care. It was exactly the kind of loving conversation you dream of.

I never felt the need to lead the way, and I’m really glad I didn’t. It’s been amazing to see others take the initiative and navigate this journey – it’s been incredible to watch! What an exciting time for everyone at Disney.
She’s been promoting her new, sensual song, ‘Mature,’ which she explains is like a message from her current self to her younger self.
Hilary shared with People magazine that she and another person were fondly remembering a shared experience and expressing affection for each other. She described it as a lighthearted moment of gratitude for how things ultimately turned out.
Hilary didn’t officially mentor Demi and Selena, but she has given guidance to young artists throughout their careers.
She told Forbes in 2016 that people often feel a lot of pressure to achieve success, but it’s okay if things don’t go perfectly right away.
The young actress encouraged everyone to stay confident and keep trying, even if their first job isn’t exactly what they’ve always wanted.
It can help you achieve your goals, or unexpectedly lead you down a path that’s even better suited for you.
Hilary was once asked if she’d choose to be a child star again, knowing what she knows now. She said she would.

While I might make a few changes if I could relive my life, I wouldn’t want to alter anything drastically. I’m happy with where I am today, and I realize that even difficult experiences have led me here, so I wouldn’t risk changing the past, even if I could, said the How I Met Your Father star in an interview with Cosmopolitan.
The mother of four admitted she wished she’d had more opportunities for education, and particularly regretted missing out on the college experience.
She wondered what achieving her goals would actually be like, admitting it probably wouldn’t match her original vision. She explained that her background and personality would inevitably shape the outcome in unexpected ways.
Hilary admitted it felt strange to think about how others see her, but she realized that part of her identity is important and can’t really be ignored if she wants to connect with people normally.
I consider myself intelligent, but I recognize there are gaps in my knowledge simply because I haven’t lived through certain experiences. I’ve also learned things others haven’t, but I don’t dwell on those differences.
