The sci-fi thriller “War of the Worlds,” featuring Ice Cube and Clark Gregg, is currently dominating streaming platforms globally.
In this new movie, based on HG Wells’ 1898 novel, Ice Cube plays Will Radford, a skilled professional in monitoring threats and assessing risks, who serves as an analyst within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
With unmatched skill in dealing with digital dangers, Will finds his world turned upside down as meteors slam into the Earth. But as machinery rises from the debris, it’s evident that a hostile extraterrestrial attack is underway.
Since its debut on Amazon Prime Video on July 30th, “War of the Worlds” has been captivating audiences due to its unique screenlife style, where all action occurs exclusively through in-story screens.
According to FlixPatrol’s rankings, the movie is currently leading both the UK and global streaming charts, outperforming titles like “Heads of State” and “F Marry Kill.” Remarkably, it has maintained the top position globally for the past two days and within the UK for the last three.

Regardless of its high viewership, the movie has received unfavorable reviews from critics, all nine reviews on Rotten Tomatoes being marked as negative. Similarly, viewers on IMDb have given it a low rating of 3.3 out of 10.
Cinemalogue found that the new take on HG Wells’ science-fiction story lacked any real suspense due to its poorly thought-out tricks, and ScreenAnarchy described it as both laughably terrible and absurdly ridiculous.
The movie was criticized just as harshly, with one reviewer labeling it as “catastrophic”. Another critique from Blu-ray.com stated that despite the frequent keyboard use and screen changes, the director’s limited resources and difficulties in remote production resulted in an unremarkable end product.

According to ABC4 Utah, this modern take on a screenlife thriller based on H.G. Wells’ classic falls flat in being engaging and even struggling to qualify as a movie. They criticized it for having the worst acting, special effects (CGI), and overall film quality of the year.
If you prefer comedies over sci-fi thrillers, then perhaps Prime Video has something for you – the highly praised movie “Hot Fuzz”, which boasts an impressive British cast. However, keep in mind that it’s scheduled to depart from the streaming platform on 10 August, so don’t miss out!
War of the Worlds is streaming now on Prime Video.
