The dismissal of his involuntary manslaughter trial on July 12 served as the catalyst for this legal action.

Baldwin asserted that the defendants – namely Kari Morrissey, Mary Carmack-Altwies, four Santa Fe Police investigators, and the county board of commissioners – deliberately mismanaged the evidence.
