After four decades, the original movie that launched the popular fantasy action series Highlander is finally being adapted for a new audience. Released in 1986, the film introduces Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior who learns he’s part of a hidden group. These immortals must battle each other, with the last one remaining winning a mysterious reward known only as “The Prize.”
Featuring Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, Sean Connery as his teacher Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, and Clancy Brown as the evil Kurgan, Highlander has gained a dedicated following and launched a large franchise. This franchise includes multiple sequels, spin-offs, books, comics, and video games. Currently, a remake is being developed with Henry Cavill (known for playing Superman) and director Chad Stahelski (of John Wick fame).
While still a film student at UCLA, writer Peter Wilden created and sold the script for the original Highlander movie, launching a popular franchise. Now, that very first script is being turned into a comic book, or graphic novel, by Titan Comics (according to Variety). Titled Highlander: The Original Screenplay, the comic will present the story of Connor MacLeod as Wilden initially envisioned it. It’s scheduled to be released on November 17, 2026, and details about the story are available below.
The story of Connor unfolds over hundreds of years, filled with legendary battles and hidden conflicts. He travels through time, battling other immortals in a dangerous competition to win an incredible, unknown reward.
Jonathan Wilkins, the editor of “Highlander: The Original Screenplay,” announced that readers will finally be able to enjoy the complete, early version of this timeless adventure. He described working with the writer, Gregory, to uncover the story’s original paths as a rewarding experience, and invited readers to journey through both the brutal Scottish Highlands of the 1500s and the gritty streets of 1980s New York in this exciting take on the immortal Highlander legend.

Fans are eager to see how the new “Highlander” movie compares to the original concept, and the book “Highlander: The Original Screenplay” might offer hints about the reboot’s direction. Speaking of the reboot, Henry Cavill is finally filming the long-awaited movie after years of anticipation. Directed by Chad Stahelski, known for “John Wick,” and written by Kerry Williamson and Mike Finch, the film boasts an impressive cast alongside Cavill. This includes Russell Crowe, his co-star from “Man of Steel,” as well as Karen Gillan and Djimon Hounsou from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marisa Abela (“Industry”), Max Zhang (“Blades of the Guardians”), Jeremy Irons (“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”), and Dave Bautista (“Dune”)—also known from the MCU—round out the cast, with Bautista playing the main villain.
