High Potential Season 2 Is a Major Hit on Streaming

I’ve always loved Kaitlin Olson as Dee Reynolds, but I’m even more excited that her show, High Potential, is becoming such a huge success! The second season premiered on September 16th, and it’s absolutely dominating the streaming charts right now. It’s fantastic to see her work getting so much attention!

Olson plays Morgan Gillory, a smart single mother of three who teams up with the LAPD to help solve criminal cases. According to FlixPatrol, High Potential is currently the third most popular series on Disney+ globally and, as of October 3rd, ranks as the second most-watched show on Disney+ in the U.S. The series is also the number one show available for rental on Amazon channels. Besides Olson, High Potential also features Daniel Sunjata, Judy Reyes, Amirah J., Deniz Akdeniz, and Javicia Leslie.

High Potential Season 2 started strong, nearly tripling its initial same-day viewership over seven days when counting viewers across ABC, Hulu, Disney+, and online platforms. Data from Nielsen and our own streaming numbers show that the Season 2 premiere attracted 28% more viewers than the very first episode last year. The first season of High Potential initially reached 9.3 million viewers in its first week. This year’s premiere also saw a significant increase in viewers compared to last year’s, jumping from around 4.34 million (according to Nielsen) to nearly three times that number.

The second season debut of High Potential is the strongest premiere for an ABC drama in over three years, since the Nov. 12, 2020, premiere of Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 – a special 2-hour episode that included a crossover with Station 19. High Potential is created by Drew Goddard, the mind behind The Good Place. Both viewers and reviewers are clearly loving High Potential, with the show earning a near-perfect 96% score from critics and an 81% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

Kaitlin Olson Reveals What She Wants to See From Morgan

Before the start of Season 2, Olson discussed her hopes for her character, Morgan, this year. She explained how her character is confronting the reality that her ability to solve crimes isn’t a blessing, and how that storyline connected with viewers. “I realized, oh yeah, there are people who relate to that and want to see more of the challenges it creates,” Olson stated. “I’d really like to explore that further, and also show her making errors, as I mentioned previously,”

She went on to say, “It gets tiresome watching someone succeed constantly; it needs variety to stay interesting. I especially enjoy the scenes involving the children. I’d like to see more of her son and the difficulties he faces due to his talents. We briefly touched on his school friendships last season, but there’s a lot more to that story. The same goes for Ava and her struggles – or lack thereof. Perhaps Ava will flourish and have a wonderful social life, which might be something Morgan and Elliot envy.”

I’m also very curious about what’s happening with Morgan and Ava’s dad. There are so many storylines I want to explore – I really want to create some exciting, dramatic scenes, as well as genuinely funny moments, and really delve into the characters’ relationships. I believe it’s important to develop the other characters on the show more fully. We didn’t get to do that as much as I’d hoped, so we’re definitely going to be focusing on that now,” Olson added.

High Potential airs on Tuesdays on ABC. A new episode will debut on October 7th, and will be available to stream on Hulu the following day.
